Hello All,
Had a small window of time to work on sleeping platform this Labor Day weekend.
Just about done.
Prime was right. Just had to further support the shelving with a few additional pvc legs.
Found a nearby foam and mattress store that will custom cut me some cushions.
I will try to load pics of finished platform and later in the week pics with the foam cushions in place.
On vacation next week.
Cant wait.

Disassembled
The white rectangle you see by the left rear door is a cooler. The hole/gap(in the platform) is where I will step in and out and place my shoes.
In fact, I all also move the cooler out out the way when entering and exiting.
The cooler is where I will lay my head.
While living on my back, my left shoulder is completely supported by corner of the 24x36 shelf. At no time does the shoulder fall into the hole/gap.
I am mostly a side sleeper. Whether on my left side or right side, I am completely supported.
When on my right side, my hip is on the smaller 12×24 shelf.
Cant wait for the cushions.

Thanks for keeping us updated with pics!
(I rotated the last 3 images for you.)
Now... can you design a way for me to sleep laying down inside a 1990 Miata?

Thanks MetroMPG for turning the pics.
I ordered cushions today and will pick them up tomorrow.
It took me forever to think of using the stackable utility storage shelves. They are just about perfect.
Wood was too heavy in my opinion.
These shelves are moisture/mold proof and are ventilated. Lightweight and easy to assembly/disassemble and store where back seat bottom cushion was.
$66.00 for the following g 3" thick pretty firm foam cushions:
2- 24"x36"
1-12"x24"
1-12"x12"
1-11"x12"
That's the plain foam with no covers. Did not want covers made just yet. I will throw a bed sheet over them for starters.
Update
Installed the foam cushions today. This platform is gonna work just fine.
While messing with the cushions today I also figured out a table, using another shelf from the stack. Two legs will hold one end of shelf in the trunk and the other two legs will reach to the ground outside the trunk.
No pics of the table this time but here are some pics of the sleeping platform with foam cushions. Cushions are not covered yet, winter project.
