questions about front bumper ( advice for crazy front bike rack plan)

I am thinking of installing a bike rack to the front of my 2019 mirage es

right now the plan is to pull the front plastic.
and weld a nut into the right side (in blue)
that matches the left tow hook nut (in green)

then drill a hole in the plastic with a matching plug.

should be easy to go from there to a rack to hold a mountain bike.

since the left side is a tow hook point i assume there is plenty of strength for the steel bumper
to hold a bike on the highway...

( yes i have a trailer hitch but it is holding a 3 foot tool box for long trip storage)

other then a serious loss in fuel economy.. anyone see a fault with the plan?
    any advice?

i was also thinking to just go lower and fabricate something at the lowest point and not mess with the front grill and plastic?

There might even be an official Mitsubishi accessory that does what you want. I would consider that before installing any aftermaket bike rack. Even if the part isn't made any more, might be worth digging before drilling. Know all your options at least.

I am looking at other cars to replace my own 2014 Mirage. The Subaru Impreza wagon for example, you can get bike racks, and roof luggage, etc. Not sure about the Hyundai Venue but my point is you can get a lot of OEM stuff, parts that fit snugly onto your Mirage.
