    side window chip

Got a tiny chip in my driver side window tonight. It was loud, very loud. So much so, that I expected a huge chunk to be missing from the window but it's a little white dot. Whew!
I'll ignore it, but wondered if anyone ever had a side window chip turn into a crack? If it's tempered glass, I believe it'll be fine. Just wanted to check and see if anyone has had this happen.
I understand it is uncommon to get a rock chip in a side window. However, in five years, I have had three or four instances of something, rock or whatever, hit this car in the side glass. Only one other tiny chip that I know of in the left glass. Several in the windshield, of course, all on the left.
So maybe side rock chips are more common, maybe in small cars? I have been driving full size pickups for years and never had a problem.
