Thread: Trying to find the lightest wheels possible.

  1. #21
Funny, the minispare for a mirage has a higher load rating by 200lbs than the stock dunlop. And has 2 ply sidewalls when the dunlop having 1.
I did some work for an skip the dishes driver. He drove on his spare for weeks before it worn out completely wore out. I was as impressed with how long the tire lasted as much as I was unimpressed at the fact someone lacked the common sense to get a new tire sooner.

Mark I wasn't suggesting keeping the temporary tire on, only using the rim .

That said I have ran a spare for 300 miles before and there was zero evidence of treadwear. I think 70 miles is more a precaution if you put it on a driven wheel. I made sure to get it installed on the rear not to harm the transmission.

I got lucky, I found on on Ebay that the listed ended, unsold. Had it for $115 went to $74.75. Talked to the guy to see if he has it and what is the lowest he could come down to and he has it and will sell it to me for $65 free shipping. Not bad at all!

    Cool Lightweight Rim

Alright, I've went with the Honda Insight Spare Rims. Weighing in at 8.6 Pounds (3.9 Kilograms) after I painted them black with a new valve stem. I like the look, not perfect, but it will do. In order to remove the school bus yellow paint, I used paint thinner. Took about 5 tries and a lot of scrubbing. Then I used 320 grit sand buffer on my dremel tool to get it all smooth and clean.

Also the tire I want that will fit the rim and will be factory height as well Tire rack says it weighs 12 pounds. I'll see later when I get it.

Looks cool, I saw someone on here with Mini rims on their Mirage, not sure which fit. Could be another avenue.

The lightest Mirage as far as I know is one like my 2014 ES base. With no A/C.. so reduces weight overall by like 100 lbs or something... and I think manual trannys are lighter than CVT... so off the lot my Mirage is almost as light as you're gonna get.

Post some shots when you have your new wheels on! Cheers

    Looks good.

What size is the tire? The Tire Rack picture shows 135-70R14, but I'm not sure if that's the size you are going with.

The tire size was already given in the ad, & it was 135SR14. That is how they are sold. My old Festiva had 145SR12 tires. I assume you are asking the aspect ratio?

    https://www.cokertire.com/vredestein...c-135sr14.html

The above gives an aspect ratio of 80, which would give it a diameter of 22.5". Which puts it exactly between a 165/65-14 (22.4") & 175/55-15 (22.6") tire.

    Cool On the Car!

Here you go. Looks good. Titanium Lug Nuts haha! But today I checked the drum brakes at 61,250 Miles (98,572 Kilometers.) And they are still good. I am painting the rear suspension bar black after brushing the rust off with a wire brush and cleaning it good. Crazy how the drum is 11.73 pounds! It also has the bearings and wheel studs built in so replacing would really be easy.
