    A Breath of Fresh Air.

I woke up this morning (thank you Lord) It was the dawn of a new era. Every Englishman rejoices.
So I took a drive over to where my son lives, about 14 miles away. Then coming toward me on a 40 mph street was one of these. A Mini Moke, it's a Mini (original BMC) in all but no roof or doors. A fun vehicle for the coast.
Yes I know it's a Mirage forum but hey ho.
So tonight I celebrate UK freedom with a good lashing of whisky.

Here's the Moke, I couldn't possible have photographed what I saw as I was driving and so was this but the second thing this day that delighted me.

To see one of these this morning of all mornings...Yes I suppose that is an aptly-timed Englishman's Englishy car if there is one. Front end of a Jeep, no top like a VW thing. I don't know if I like it, but I am not surprised they spun different things from the Mini platform that never made it to our shores in Canada.

The seats look big compared to the rest of the car.

I saw a yellow Lotus Esprit like that red one next to the Moke, a few years ago near Stratford (Ontario). Lotus Esprits are so low to the ground and low-profiled car, you can't do that justice without seeing them in real life. Like 39" american inches from the ground.

I've only seen one other Lotus on the road, and that was a newer model Elise, a red one.. And this was while stuck in traffic near Toronto.. they were shifting gears too.. but chain smoking.. and not going anywhere fast. I wish I could yellow up my Lotus like that, but who is that rich!?!

Seeing that picture I agree that new horizons have opened for the UK. Here in the EU it was raining cat and dogs this morning.

Is that a beach buggy derived from a Vw Beetle? The Moke was accidental, originally designed as a military vehicle but it had lousy ground clearance so sold to Joe Public, the rest is history as they say.

I gratefully accept your congratulations Cobrajet. At least when I pop off I can say I saw us in and saw us out.
Don't want to rock the boat by turning this into anything political so what do you think of the Moke?

Yep, this is the original model if you listen to the company that made them, Manx. I was with my Dad when he picked ours up in 1971. It weighed all of about ~20-250 lbs and was gold metalflake just like this baby. I think it cost about $325 or so. It went on a rust free 1958 chassis/motor my Dad bought for $50!

Now, to the topic of bureuccracy, I read Texas has decreed these cars unfit and illegal is revoking their fit for road status and the poor owners only find out when they got into the MOT to renew their annual sticker!!! Land of the free, indeed!
