This discussion is beginning to sound like a kvetching championship!

Plenty to do to make some capable of even thinking of a FDR style New Deal, don't you think?

Why do about one in five GI's drafted to European bases permanently move their residence to Europe?

People are apparently suffering from derangement. Here we have local citizens who ran for and were elected to a local public office in order to serve their community and they are being accused of constructing a Communist takeover of their little town. It's not a coordinated effort to undermine Democracy, it's individuals using the best information available to better protect their own neighbors. Instead, they receive death threats against themselves and their family.

It's much too easy to cherry-pick information and use confirmation bias to make things appear different than they really are. It's important to step back and remember we are all trying our best to deal with this and keep things from getting worse.
I didn't read your entire post, way too many words for me. We have a bunch of crazies out here threatening officials over restrictions that are in place. There are lots of like minded simple people throwing protests and rallies crying about not being able to go watch a movie or casino for the next 4 weeks.

I could care less about most restrictions, the mask one is annoying, the "not being able to have people at your house" rule would be a major pita for most people, I didn't have plans for Christmas anyways other than getting drunk and fighting with family and friends over things that happened years ago.
As long as grocery stores, gas stations and liquor stores remain open and stocked I'll survive. For the most part I see most people acting civil around here, only the crazies seem to get the most publicity.

Yes plenty to do. A new deal would address grievances from the right as well as the left. And believe it or not the right has legitimate concerns that I completely understand like the far left's insane political correctness, identity politics, sins of the father recriminations against a certain ethnic group here, an insane new green deal policy initiative that in no way can cover our growing energy needs (IMO nuclear energy is the only thing that could by 2100 AD with a projected 10 billion people on the planet), advocating an open borders policy, hell I for one like Canada's point system immigration policy. All I'm advocating is a healthcare system that doesn't treat medicine like a business and paying a living wage to all. Oh and free weed. Where's my party? I don't get one unless we bring back the centrists Whig party lol.

Honestly it's like watching the Circus from the bleachers up in Canada. So extreme! Ain't that a shame because I love so much of the USA.. too bad half the population doesn't believe in democracy any more.
It's a bummer that only the crazies get publicity because...crazy gets views lol. I would say, OVERALL, the town I'm living in is quite peaceful...like extremely peaceful compared to the crazy nutjobs on social media sprouting their words about a Civil War. There are people (only on social media) talking about Civil War, like an actual Civil War, even though, those people can literally enjoy the same stuff we can all enjoy by following directions lol. I've seen posts from friends on facebook and social media about Civil War because of the current voting system in USA. It's insane. It sucks. But I've blocked those people's post on my social media platform.

It's insane because my facebook wall was mostly about cool/funny car memes and memes, and now, its a lot of political stuff. But yeah, totally agree that social media is definitely a reason why these people can echo off of each other. Which is really sad and unfortunate. But...I can hope for the best.

Right now, it's pretty damn peaceful around my part of town. Like any other town, if you want to find trouble, it's easy to find it lol. If anything, it's definitely hard since the pandemic is still here. I just hope the vaccines get here much sooner rather than much later.

France invented Liberty, and your average schmoe isn't allowed to arm themselves like a small militia. Public health care makes sense! Viruses aren't individual things.

To quote Foama, so much is obscene in the USA now. I worry it's 1935. Hope y'all can turn the tide to reasonable, otherwise I see succession happening again

Please clarify - What half doesn't believe in democracy?

I wouldn't take too much offense, his estimates are usually way out of whack lol.
I don't think he really hates Americans as much as his post's make it seem?
    I'll go make some popcorn.

I don't get you. Why do you think I'm being sarcastic? From the time we were monkeys, picking flees off each others asses, we had to breathe and we had to eat. But even from when we were monkeys, we didn't have health care. It wasn't a basic human right until recently (in the grand scheme of things). Yet even from the time we were monkeys, and sitting around scratching our balls, we had to eat and breathe. Breathing is free. Why shouldn't groceries be free? Eating was free when we were monkeys. That makes it more of a human right now than health care. So it should be free. All those things are more of a human right than health care. And we should extend that to anything we place in our bodies. Free food, free weed, free beer, free liquor, free crack, free meth.

We're an advanced economy, and an industrialized civilization and people. The government should set up local food and drug trucks (like taco trucks) that stop by our homes daily, and come to our door like a UPS delivery person. With a push a cart maybe. Or we can go out to the truck, and pick out our groceries, and which variation of weed, crack, meth (whatever) we want for that day. I'm not understanding why you're not agreeing with me. There's no reason my kids and I (and everyone else) shouldn't be sitting around all day fully stuffed with food and blitzed out of our minds. It's unacceptable as advanced as we are in today's world.

The side has been trying to throw out legal ballots cast during the US election this year.

Making bogus legal battles out of thin air, where there is no evidence of voter fraud. When cheating is the way to winning.. that is the side that doesn't believe in democracy. Changing the rules to win is not winning.

That's the side that no longer believes in democracy. Or sportsmanship.

    I'm not anti-American.. I'm anti-Banana Republic, propping-up-fascists...

This whole election has disappointed me greatly. It proves to me there are enough idiots who watch the news all day and buy it up. The reality of covid is that the lock down and fear mongering have done more harm to the country than if we simply ignored it and did nothing.

dspace9 - I will agree with you on this. If it appears there is no funny business going on, then I want Trump out, and I want him to duct tape his mouth shut and get out. I'm a Trump fan. But much more than that, I'm a fan of our democracy. I am a fan of "the President" whoever he may be. I am not liking that my own state went blue. But as many times as GA has recounted this vote, the chances of there being funny business is very close to 0. So, I respect the vote. At this point, Trump and his associates need to stop their barrage on GA's leadership. Gov Kemp has followed the law. He has kept his space with the election which is by law how it is supposed to be.

Here's the caveat. In an election like in 2016 when it was a landslide, it is clear that even with minor problems, or potentially minor wrong doing, the end result would be the same. But with a victory that is razor thin, why not give it time to be sorted out? It would be a real shame, even more, it would be a devastating tragedy that if in a year's time there were some evidence that came out that showed it should have went the other way. So ... when it's close, air it all out. I believe GA did. And I don't believe there was enough problems or cheating in GA to make a difference. I have no problem with ensuring in all close race states to the same level. In the end, if it proves nothing is any different, the Trump needs to get the h out. I'll respect the office of President in any event.
