Thread: This is where your Mirage is going to rust out. (Body/chassis corrosion)

I have seen another 2014-2015 Mirage recently with the rust spot in the same place. I guess this is where the water which condenses inside the panels likes to acumulate.

The rear license plate lights were hanging under the bumper on the 2015 today, the entire bracket had rusted away

One cheap solution is to spray a couple of layers of plastidip on the bottom.
    Works like a charm.
I used to have it on my steelies (rims) for years, and not a single speck of rust on them.

The paint does look a little matte (dull) after a few years, but it kind of seals up most minor damage caused by pebble impact.

    Condolences.

Do you do much driving on gravel/dirt roads?

Almost strictly paved interstate highways. I blame it on winter road treatment. I will rig up some brackets from home Depot

Above: pesky wheel arch rust back again.

    Below...

Rust stains on the rocker, from water dripping from the door's rusty lower edge...

First 6g Mirage with a rust hole!

Thin metal + rust = hole!

This hole opened up with light prodding with the tip of a screwdriver.

Inside was packed with very, very fine grit. (It's not rust flakes.) Consistency of flour.
Perfect for holding moisture. Somehow it blew into the panel gap & settled in the pocket between the inner & outer panels.

RUSTPROOF YOUR CARS, PEOPLE!! This one never was.

Wow! My 2014 was cavity-waxed and the axle bodies and exhaust were painted when it was almost new.
Today nill rust, absolutely zero rust anywhere. I have never seen any rust damage at all on any Mirage in my life, other than in the pix of this thread. Btw, they do salt the roads heavily in winter over here too.
