    Endorsement for Aamco CVT service

Hi fellas. This is an announcement for any CVT owner looking to dodge the Mitsubishi stealership in regards to CVT servicing. When I initially went to the dealership they quoted me $250 for a drain and diagnostic check up plus another $150 for the side filter change, which the service manager at first, didnt even know it had a side filter. No pan drop, no magnet clean, and no pan clean for $400! Screw that. After reading from Fummins on how to maintain the CVT7 properly, I called Aamco. For $289 they do the pan drop, clean the magnets, add extra magnets, use OEM fluid, and change out both filters! I believe doing this is a superior form of preventative maintenance because of the data Fummins has posted over the years and how durable his fleet has been. Fummins, how many of your 2015s do you project to hit 200k miles? A ball park estimate would be appreciated. For folks on here out of warranty, the Aamco service is about as good as it gets. Thoughts?

My scheduled service is for next week, Wednesday April 15th, 2020. Ill let everyone know how it goes. I also made sure the head specialist knew my CVT is performing great to avoid any "oh you might want to get a new one soon" shennanigans shops like to pull.

Another great find, ol' Dirksie. Aamco and other independent shops are in it to win it, and research like this goes a long way toward keeping our Favorite Little Car out on the roads.

Looking forward to reading customers experiences with Aamco. Dirk, have you scheduled service with them yet?

Never mind - you just answered my question.

It is my understanding that AAMCOs are all independently owned and operated, which means some are better than others. The one in my town seems to have reviews that are...well, 'mixed'.

Some customers say they are better than make-up sex, others claim they are worse than bleeding hemorrhoids.

Let us know how it goes.

So far there's only 1 with over 200k miles. It's almost at 217 k miles. There's a half dozen or so with over 150k miles, one being a 2017. Another 6 or so have around 136k miles. I've got a list I made for Marks new buddy but didn't bother posting it lol. There's only 6 cars with under 100,000 miles in the fleet I deal with. 1 being a 2019.

Aamco (25+ years ago) used to have a pretty bad reputation. If you went to Aamco with ANY transmission problem (fluid leak, shifting problem, slipping, shuddering), the fix for every problem was usually the same:

We can't tell anything until we get the transmission out of the car. By the time the trans is out of the car and blown apart on the bench, you might as well pay us $1500 to rebuild it.

Aamco used to run TV commercials all the time (20 years ago) with this tag line...

"Half the cars serviced by Aamco don't need a new transmission"
When I took transmission class in auto school, my instructor used to joke that their tag line should be...

"Half the cars serviced by Aamco don't need a new transmission...but they get one anyway"
Times have changed...and like these guys are saying, these places are independently owned. If you found a good one, then stick with them and give them your business.

Thats why I made it abundantly clear the CVT is working great lol. The guy did confirm though, that % wise, the amount of premature CVT failure exhibited from Mitsu vehicles is miniscule compared to Nissan vehicles.

I'd like to see the percentage of reported failures or warranty claims versus actual number of cars on the road/sales numbers. Any kinda chart that isn't covid related would be good really.
