Hi MacClyver. I guess we will just have to agree to disagree on a few things about Mirage's. I know you are saving your car from wintertime, but one thing that shines with my 2014 Mirage compared to my old '97 Escort, is winter handling.

They have moved leaps and bounds with handling tech... that makes a HUGE difference in the winter. Above everything, that is where the Mirage is better subcompact than the classics like your Metro or my Escort.

Overall, I agree with you. The electric power steering is over done (to sensitive). My 1990 Ford Festiva with no power steering handled better on the highway. When you are cruising, you really don't need power steering (especially on a lightweight car with skinny tires). Rear sway bar helps, & I don't mind car as is. If I could change one thing, however, it would be the power steering.

I have never driven an Escort or a Mirage in snow so I'll have to trust you. But even with some worn tires that had no business being in the snow I have no complaints about Metro winter handling . If the Mirage does even better that's awesome!

I bought a pillow, but now I sit too high. The seatback's lack of lumbar, gives me a backache after about 10 minutes. My hour-and-a-half drive last week was felt three days later. If I knew I could swap in Lancer/Outlander Sport seats, I'd keep it and sell our Yaris. But alas.

I don't have a problem with highway driving with it (sans the seats). It's quite fun to drive other than that blasted seat pain.
Have you thought of swapping in a 6-way adjustable seat from a higher trim level?

Not bad. Middle trim level, but I bet it is 2WD.

That's good considering AWD isn't needed really in Atlanta. After my Outback I'm done with AWD. Makes getting a flat way more expensive and bad mpg.

    Sayonara Mirage #1

The new owners paid the balance and picked it up today. Nice retired couple. Everybody's happy.

I'm already watching for the next one.
