Thread: 2015 Cvt problem Maybe? Hopefully not for Dirks sake

  1. #1

2015 Cvt lost communication with tcm?

I just had to pick up a car that started out having a problem getting it out of park. The shift lock thing wouldn't move, driver ended up bypassing it. Car wouldn't move in reverse or drive. I drove out to take a look, it felt like the transmission was slipping. Engine, trac control and trac control off lights were on. I left it came back an hr later with a trailer and it drove on. Oh, and I didn't have to bypass the shifter, it now seems to work fine... weird...

It seems to drive ok in drive but the second you put it in reverse the three lights pop up on the dash and it clunks pretty hard into reverse after a few seconds.
So far I checked the two known crusty problem connectors behind the kick panel and under the drivers seat, they all looked nice and clean.

The car seems to loose communication with the tcm when put in reverse. I'm hoping its still an electrical problem. I'll pull the pan off and take a look. Maybe the innards are full of grey cvt death smooh shorting shart out?

Just noticed that the shift indicator doesn't display R ever and the backup lights don't work.

Just for ****s, did you check the rear backup light? Could cause canbus issues if it burned out.

No, I do try the hard things first. The bulbs looked okay through the lense, I'll pull em out and have a better look.

    So far I've:
-Checked kick panel connectors for corossion
    -Check plug under drivers carpet
    -Cleaned batter connections
-Dropped cvt oil pan, looked ok, put back together with new fluid

Sometimes shifter won't come out of park. Reverse indicator doesn't work, it does display P, N and d properly(usually). Back up lights don't work.

Ok, Checked both back up lights they look like new.
I can't get my scanner to communicate with the tcm now at all, it won't show any gear now, and the shifter won't come out of park without bypassing the shift lock deal. All fuses under the hood look okay.
Now it's time to trace wiring I guess. Damnit.

To be fair, it's a real pita to pull the tail light housings out.

Are you being serious? 2 screws and a tug? Couldn't be easier.

I'm 128 lbs soaked, a light tug feels like I'd pull my shoulder out it's socket...of course, that could also be because I almost destroyed my shoulder snowboarding in Utah.

And Yeah, that's much more a pita than just popping a panel off and removing a bulb like in my Accord...but that thing has the front headlights blocked by the air box and coolant hoses, so...
