REading is hard. I found the proper procedure after I got back from a test drive. It drove fine until I got it up to 70mph and tried to hold it there. The rippems would bounce a little. It was pretty windy so that didn't help things. It felt like it was hunting for the right gear in a regular automatic. Could have been the torque convertor locking and unlocking? I'll have to try again and do some graphing things. Other wise it seems ok.

Well, back to this one again. pull the plug and verify I 2 1/2 liters comes out just to double check I had the fluid level about right since it's such a pita to be positive when it's new, hot and runs off the dipstick like water. It did have 2.5 l come out but it looked pretty grey. That was concerning, so I could either just replace it or fill it back up and see how it drives. So I toss in some new fluid and go for a long drive down the highway, up to 70mph, very slight surge for a few seconds then the rpm dropped. The longer I drove the better it seemed to be getting. No flashing lights, no sign of problems, no codes stored.

But with that said, I don't expect it to last another year but it drives fine right now so no sense replacing it quite yet. Hate to sound morbid but chances are it'll be written off tomorrow if I change it today.

Quick update: I haven't heard any complaints about this car. It looks like it's been driven daily since it was picked up. No news is good news??? This gives hope to those who may have early symptoms. Maybe a good cleaning and few fluid changes is enough of a bandaid to help someone to drive theirs to a dealership or auction to unload.

And I just got a call about this one....
I guess I'll drop the fluid and take a look, check for codes. Might be the first 2017 cvt to die? It had around 227,000km in May. Now has around 235,000km. I wouldn't be surprised if it's had problems for weeks already.

Car just got here. Fluid looks nice and clear, doesn't look low at all. In fact the dipstick didn't seem to have been removed for a while. There is a very faint whining noise in park. Almost like an old ford power steering pump. Looks like a Monday thing. Happy Friday!

I can't find anything wrong with this thing. Took it for a 30 min drive down the highway trying to get it to act up. Drives fine to me.

Do you have an idea what the "normal" operating temperature range is for CVT fluid?

I would assume it's around 200F (93C). But according to the Mirage service manual, the warning light doesn't turn on until the fluid reaches 279F...which seems really high. If my CVT fluid temp is reaching 250+F on a regular basis, I would think something is wrong...but I would never know it if I'm relying on the warning light.
