    Question Rear Plate Light

    hi there,

    i just need some help.

i swapped a used rear bumper to my 2015 hatch. I didnt noticed that the plate light LED is not aligned with the holes on the bumper because the new bumper is longer than the 2015 bumper. i mean extended unlike the 2015 bumper shorter

On mitsubishipartswearhouse looks like the 14-15 have a bracket and a few other hardware bits, the 17 only has the bulb housings, but I assume it needs something similar if not the same one. I'll go look at mine in a bit, but I won't be able to take it apart until later

the 2017+ license plate light just snaps into place. 15 and older has 2 screws holding each light. So either jerry rig you old lights or get new ones for the 17 bumper

Nice catch. Since my mirage got tapped in the rear, it was a little annoying getting the screws in/out when I recently changed the bulbs.

When washing my '15 Mirage DE yesterday I discovered the rear license plate lights were completely unsecured: Out of position and dangling inside the hatch. Feeling around I found flakes of rusty metal.

27,000 miles; five Ohio winters. Anyone else have this experience?

Sounds like that's your problem. They're supposed to be in the bumper not the hatch. I assume you meant bumper?
Regardless, I haven't seen that problem. Yet.

Yes, that is correct: bumper, not hatch. Taking it to the dealer today to document the problem and inquire about warranty coverage.

I have a bumper cover laying here. The license plate lights bolt to a little metal plate that is held onto the plastic bumper cover with 2 plastic body clips. It looks like a good place to hold salt and crap.

I have another older vehicle with the same issue. The light bracket basically disintegrated into rust over time. I fabricated a new bracket myself out of some flat pieces of PVC.

It looks like the bracket is actually pretty cheap (for a Mitsubishi part). If you can install it without removing the bumper cover, it should be an easy fix...

My 2015 bracket is still solid but my car has been treated with Krown.
