    Front clip

    Hey folks,

I've got a 2019 ES hatch. Got tagged by some idiot in a parking lot while I was on the road last November, and I've never fixed it.

I was browsing rock-auto this morning at work and found a replacement fender, older front bumper cover (2014-2015), a hood, and the grille insert for said bumper for a grand total before shipping of $472.16.

I'm assuming these front bumpers line up with the same clips/retainers as my 2019 does. I work at a GMC body shop and I'm more than sure that I can slip our painter a few bucks and have him shoot basecoat and clear for me here before replacing.

Is it worth the cost, and do ya'll think it would look okay?

Thanks guys, hope everyone is being safe! See ya!

It's been done. You're gonna need the tow hook access cover as well. They are different. Otherwise just the hood and bumper are different. Fenders, headlights rad support are all the same 14-19'.

As far as looks, do whatever floats your boat. It's your car. Some prefer the older front end, some prefer the newer one with all the fancy chrome.

Not sure if you are aware but there are some subtle differences between the 14/15s and the 2017 redesign.

Notice the line where the hood meets the grill:

And of course the hood itself has a different shape.

I've wondered if those parts you've listed are interchangeable or if there's something that would keep the older stuff from bolting up.

Edit - nevermind Fummins beat me to it.

Thank you both! I'll remember that, Fummins!

Eggman, I'm not sure I'm going to really have to worry about the subtle differences if I'm changing the front end?

    Thanks again folks!

I would source OEM body panels if at all possible before you touch aftermarket stuff. You work in a body shop so I don't have to tell you how well aftermarket body panels fit.

I will neither confirm nor deny that I may or may not have just started here, so I have yet to find that out!

OEM front bumper cover for my car is about $500 by itself. Not including chrome trim that's damaged, fender, or otherwise.

I use the car for Lyft and as a daily and really don't expect perfection (as much as I'd love to have one of these in showroom condition all the time. I like preserving obscure things) so I'm not too concerned if there's any kind of minor panel gap issues.

    Thanks again guys.

Yeah, it cost $600 for the last oem bumper cover we bought. Aftermarket has come a long ways in the last 30 years. Some jobber parts do fit better than others, but ever part we've used on these cars seems to fit perfectly fine. Tinfoil is easy to bend and make fit.

I want to laugh at your tinfoil comment, but everyone knows you're right.

Wow...a few pieces of chrome almost double the price of the front bumper assembly. Looks like a 2017 bumper with the chrome trim is $700+...

Yeah that's what I'm saying. Hence why I want to go the cheaper route. I just want it to look okay again.
