wellswebdesign can you report on the tread depth of the set you have? I'm also curious to know if you got any treadwear warranty either from Tire Rack or Vredestein.

    Notes:
¹ Vredestein tread depth as reported by forum member wellswebdesign.

Eggman - I have always been super impressed with the above chart you created for all of us. I don't remember if you just stuck this chart in this thread or it had a thread of its own? If not, it deserves a thread of its own. I know that I had to do some searching to find it this thread today at least.

I was wondering if you would be willing to create a new thread that would be easier for members to find this chart? I would also be interested in you adding a few tires to the chart. That may involve changing the the layout out the chart, however. It may work better if the chart listed the tire's name in the 1st column, & each column going to the right covered a different category for each individual wheel. As new tires appear on the market, another row could be added to the existing chart. Just a thought. You may have a better one!

You may or may not be interested in doing this, but I know you are the man for the job. Thus, I thought I would ask. If you did decide to take on this project, these are a few of the more well-known 165/65r14 tires that have appeared on the market in the States in the past couple years that would be a nice addition -

    Nexen NPriz AH5 165/65R14 79S.

    Kumho Solus TA31 165/65R14 79T.

    Nokian Nordman 7 (Non-Studded) 165/65R14 79T.

This may be a great rainy day project. I have trouble creating posting charts on the forum, but I know you are excellent at it! You did one on batteries that was great, too!

Thanks, I'm glad at least one other person appreciates having this information formatted in a chart. I think it's easier to read and is especially helpful for comparison.

I don't have as much free time as I used to. With the SARS-CoV-2 things are busier than ever for me at work. But I think you have a good idea.

Let's do this - start a new thread that discusses how the chart should be laid out - what information should be included. That'll get the ball rolling and will make building this that much easier.

Sounds good! I will give it some more thought, & it can be a future project some day. Thanks!

I pulled a few posts out to get input on what features should be included in a table that can better accommodate more tires. Please - discuss and chime in with your thoughts.

It's difficult to format a table on this forum with many columns as posts are restricted by width - but then again, how will we know until we try??

How about adding a Manufacturer's Treadlife Warranty column so we can see what the manufacturer's life expectancy of the tire is?

The UTQG rating is open to interpretation so it's not always comparable across manufacturers for tread life. Some manufacturers with UTQG ratings on their tires have no treadlife warranty.

You might want to add the European Tyre Label for that tyres, which give an objective rating for rolling resistance, wet road performance and tyre noise.

BTW, if there are only 5 tyres available, you are lucky. I did a quick search on autobandenmarkt.nl, which gave me 135 choices for 165/65R14, which gives a lot of choice stress, and the knowledge that whatever you choose, there is a better one.

Over the past couple years a few more 165/65r14 tires have appeared on the market in the States. The original purpose of my request was to create a chart that could easily list more than 5 tire choices.

Having said all that, our choices are quite limited here. It's not anything near your number of 135 tires. 175/65r14 is a much more common size here, & some members end up going that direction.

Having too many choices can make one over think all this, which leads to your "choice stress" comment. I agree with that.

I believe a thread/chart devoted to 165/65r14 tires would be helpful, because most tire distributors don't carry all of the available options for a Mirage. For example, tirerack.com may offer the Vredestein Quatrac 5 (Netherlands), while tires-easy.com may offer a Nexen NPris AH5 (Korea). Meanwhile, Walmart may focus on Federal tires (Taiwan).

If one is searching for snow tires, it may be helpful to know that there is an alternative (Nokian Nordman 7) to the Dunlop Winter Maxx WM02.

In general, I see 4 tires sizes as being the most popular choice for the Mirage here in the States.

    165/65r14 (22.4") is substituted with a more popular 175/65r14 (23"), which is a 2.7% variance in diameter.
    or
    175/55r15 (22.6") is substituted with a more popular 185/55r15 (23"), which is a 1.8% variance in diameter.

I personally don't see the 165/65r14 tire as being too small for a Mirage, but I also drove a small economy car that had 12" tires (145SR12) for 14 years. I explored tire options before buying a new Mirage, because I've experience unpopular tire sizes before. Since my purchase in 2017, a few more 165/65r14 choices have appeared.

I see some value in sticking with smaller 165/65r14 tires. Personal experience has shown me the value of a skinny tire in snow. I also value mpg over appearance/ride/handling.

    Comparing apples to apples -
    A 165/65r14 Kumho Solus TA31 tire (60,000 mileage warranty) is 14.2 pounds.
    A 185/55r15 Kumho Solus TA31 tire (60,000 mileage warranty) is 17.8 pounds.

A larger tire = more weight. Some of that can be countered by lightweight rims, but a wider 15" rim will most likely weigh more than a narrower 14" rim made of the same material/design.

I bought a Mirage, because it was affordable, known to be reliable, & it is very economical. As long as affordable, decent quality 165/65r14 tires exist, I really don't mind sticking with factory size tires.

Your selection of 165/65r14 tires is amazing!

Is there any further interest in developing this table?

I don't sense the interest is there. Thanks for considering it at least.
