A/C and Radiator Fan died on same day.

2014 Mirage. I checked all the fuses, tested each relay. I tested the fan initially, it works great. I checked the A/C compressor clutch, it makes a clicking sound when engergized. The next thing I was going to try is changing the engine coolant temperature sensor. Am I barking up the right tree? I have searched through all the threads I could. Did I miss something?

I need my car, so I added a switch to turn on the fan manually while I am driving. I really miss my A/C tho.

    Thanks,
    Harold

Forget your AC for now. Let's try to get your electric cooling fan going.

So you've got power to it somehow right now, right. So you know the fan itself works. I guess we can skip this step...

There are 2 cooling fan relays under the hood (low and high speed). You can either test each relay or swap them out with another working relay...

The cooling fan relays are in the yellow box. This is the relay/fuse panel next to your battery. This is on my 2015...

You should be able to test the coolant temperature sensor with an ohm-meter...so don't go throwing new parts at it, yet.

Is there plenty of engine coolant in the system (it's not low)?

    EDIT - Sorry...reading is hard (where's Fummins? ).
Somehow I missed the part where you said you checked the relays!!!

Let me look in the service manual for the coolant temp sensor info.

Regarding your radiator fan, is your engine overheating? In other words, are you able to monitor your coolant temperature? Just trying to get a better idea of what's going on as I don't notice my cooling fan running much at all.

Here's what the service manual says (it mentions removing the sensor and putting it in hot water...but you don't need to do that). If it's so messed up that it's reading -20 C, you'll know it when you measure its resistance.

I'm just attaching this diagram so someone who searches this thread in the future will see why you need to look at the coolant temperature sensor...

Lots to look at. Thanks! The teperature sensor is in an awkward spot, so I may just spin it off to test.

Get a Scangauge and you could just see the computer's coolant temperature sensor reading from the driver's seat.

Fummins is off riding his UTV in the mountains this week. He should have left us a Fummins' hot line!

I just got an ODB scanner. Coolant temperature is around 90c.

Why do you think your fan isn't working properly, is your car overheating? I don't notice mine running unless it's pretty hot or the ac is on (and functioning). Unless your car is overheating and you get the red light on you probably don't have a problem.

According to this thread your car isn't even hot enough to run the fan...https://mirageforum.com/forum/showth...-Temp-Question

I would say you have a problem with your ac and not your rad fan... Check if it's even charged. Might have a pin hole in the condenser or something. That's probably the most common/only issue I've ran into with these cars. Other forum members(2 or 3) had clutches pile up on the compressors themselves. I've yet to see one fail personally.

Be careful jumping rad fans. If you run your own wires direct to the fan that's fine. If you tie/tee into the existing wiring you could just create a pile of nightmares down the road.
