So a $20 code reader would tell me more than a free(borrowed) code reader from Autozone or the like? I read about people liking their $100+ OBD2 plugger inner thingies.

No...but it will let you read and clear the codes yourself. Normally if a code pops up, I will make a note of it and then delete it and continue driving the car to see if the code re-appears. If the code keeps coming back, than it's a safe bet that it wasn't some sort of fluke.

If this code keeps coming up and your car is still under the powertrain warranty, you should just take it in and let the dealer fix it. This is clearly an engine-related function that would fall under the powertrain warranty.

If you have warranty just take it to the dealer. If I didn't hate my nearest dealer that's what I'd do. If they don't find anything wrong they shouldn't charge you because your check engine light is on(if it's not caused by some goofy owner installed wiring or lack of maintenance) and they'll at least have a record of it being.

If the code isn't present anymore the light should just go away on it's own after a few start and stops. Clearly there is a problem if it just came back on. Good luck.

Below are the pages from the service manual for P0011. About the only thing you can do is to make sure you have good, clean oil in the car before you take it into the dealer. The oil passages in these actuators can get gunked up if you have extended your oil change intervals too long. So if it's been 20,000 miles since you last changed the oil, I would go ahead and do it before you take it in.

The dealer was the last place that changed the oil...they gave me a 50% off coupon and I wanted them to change the tone of my turn signal...and it wasn’t too long ago.

Perfect. As long as the code consistently keeps coming back, then let them deal with it.

Make sure the code is present in the system when you drop the car off. You don't want to clear it and then tell them "drive it around for a while and it will happen." When you do that, you run the risk of it not coming back. Then you get billed for $100 just for them to tell you that they couldn't duplicate the issue.

Funny that it's in the fuel injection section.

    Thanks for posting this.

Most of the time I just go right to the alphabetical index to find what I'm looking for. Otherwise I end up flipping through half the manual to find something...
