US: 2014 Mitsubishi Mirage First Drive (Edmunds.com)

Don't know how I missed posting this one way back when...

This "first drive" report was written for the U.S. but is actually based on the U.K. Mirage launch event. Obviously they've got a UK-based writer on retainer.

Unlike Top Gear UK, they did not hate the car and try to spit digital venom at it. Though the usual complaint concerning body roll/highway handling makes its appearance...

Pros...

- well equipped
- practical cabin
- cargo space
- "throaty, engaging" engine
- positive gear shift action
- fuel economy/running costs

Cons...

- generic styling outside
- interior not stylish either
- leisurely acceleration
- body roll
- sloppy highway ride/handling

Overall...

Mitsubishi knows this isn't a flashy hatchback, so there are no false pretenses here. This is an inexpensive car that will deliver outstanding mileage. If you want more than that, look elsewhere.
