The 2.2 and the 2.5 turbo engines are very similar. Same issues apply to both, however the 86-88 2.2L Turbo engines had really crappy lightweight rods which made matters worse for the longevity of the engine. Also, the 84-87 had a really inefficient intake design which hampered performance greatly.

Personally, if I was going to have a turbo Chrysler from the era, I'd prefer the 2.5L Turbo which is what my 1989 Voyager minivan has. Completely unmodified and so forth. It's not fast, but it's very neat. But, alas, I'm selling that off as well. Not practical enough for my needs and I would feel badly about trashing something that's actually pretty rare and in decent shape yet.
