I hit the Rev limiter here and there in 1st and 2nd gear... Not all the time but I'll let you know real quick if anything bad happens. Nice thing about electronic limiter and fuel cut off as safety...but yes botching a downshift will definitely kill the car... I'm always scared of that while driving.

I never really downshifted, I just put it neutral and just knew the right gear to slap it in lol.

With automatics in that shifting mode you don't have to worry. Lol I just love downshifting... At first I was scared but it puts me in the right gear for the right situation. Just like Automatics put you in the right gear for the right speed I like to be ready to upshift or downshift if I need to instead of gliding in neutral.

I have my soft rev limiter set to 7400rpm and during tuning I’ve routinely bounced it off limiter for several seconds at a time. No adverse effects or damage. Knowing what I know now about how weak the valve springs are I wouldn’t do it again but nice to know it did hold up under 7500rpm for a good little bit 👍

I drove mine in 3rd gear at 60 mph (96 km/h) once for 30 minutes. That is 6000 rpm sustained for 30 minutes. The ultimate Torture Test. And the car still drives fine. My experiment should really "shut the books" on the question of if our little engine "can take it".

Still that being said, if you want to see 300k miles or above then best to drive gently and upshift early and often. At 3k rpm or less.

Which part are you questioning - the drive gently part or the 30 minutes at 6000 RPM part?
