Those drums should last 100k miles unless you live in the Himalayas. They simply don't do much besides beef up the ebrake according to my brakes guy. I was premature in replacing them at 50k miles. Those tiny front brake pads though I doing them every 20k miles regardless of the wear just to be kosher.

Yea eh, I was thinking the same. Routine maintenance they recommend at new car dealers might seem like overkill or an easy money grab, but there is a point to preventative maintenance.

Anything is better than ending up breaking down on the side of the road or worse.

I would get about 35k miles out of OEM front pads. I got about 80k miles out of the rear shoes. The Raybestos pads I have been using the last few changes seem to go a bit longer.

But my car is driven for delivery 100%. As the old saying goes, "Your mileage may vary."

The outer pad is not a good indicator. Better to check the inner pad because the caliper pins may be seized making the outer pad get very little use. This was pointed out before.

Everything is going "USB charging" these days. I've even seen electric sockets in houses are going that way. USB isn't really that new. Practical though. You can put a USB charger anywhere, on both the male and female ends really.

My 1999 IBM desktop with a 4 gig hard drive had USB.

I have done my front brakes every two years. The first time I changed them in April 2018 and had about 32,000 miles(51498 Km) and the second time I changed my pads in April 2020 I had doubled my mileage. Each time there was some wear surface left ( they hadn’t started squealing yet) and I’m sure I could have put a few thousand more miles on them but I always like to err on the side of caution when it comes to my brakes. New pads are relatively inexpensive and being mechanically inclined it takes about 45 minutes from start to finish to change them myself.

Nice. I'm getting my Mirage's tires rotated, and my brakes inspected at my local Ford dealer on the 11th of Nov.

See where I'm at with wear then. I'm curious what my local Ford dealer is gonna say. And I wonder what their quote will be for new brakes all around my Mirage.

Err on the side of caution is important. I'm also debating about ordering Vredstein all-weather tires and put them on my steelies. See what Ford quotes me on all this work.

Had my Mirage inspected yesterday at the local garage. My front brakes' still have 5 mm of wear left on the pads (so 20,000+ km's left) and 2mm on the back drums. The tech told me to leave the drums forever. So Let's see if I can get 200,000 km's on my drums

Overall, my Mirage has worn well over 7 years of ownership now. I just don't know why the Mitsubishi dealer charges about 2x the amount as my local Ford dealer, for service. And they know my name at Ford lol.
