    Always ON

    Hi Everyone,

Not sure if somebody ask this already, but if there is a topic about this. Please give me the link for me to check. Thanks

I have a 2014 Mirage, I want to ask, is there a way to make my instrument cluster (panel) to be "always ON" like the new model Mirages? I want to DIY it if possible.

Its really hard when you go in to tunnels or parking lots, you can't see anything on the gauges. You need to turn ON the parking lights for you to see the panel.

Hey Zerocul, I think some people would just leave their lights on. Like the second of three settings on the light stalk. Leave that on all the time, so when they hop on the car and put the keys in the ignition, they're all lit up 24/7. My sister does that with her cars. Make sure the lights are auto-off before getting into this habit. Mirage I think you're fine doing this, but I wouldn't bet on this with every car.

I'm so rarely in a tunnel-during-the-day situation with my Mirage, but I know what you mean for sure.

The Mirage shuts lights off after the key is taken out regardless of leaving the stalk switch on "ON" a poor man's daytime running lights but effective. My older cars didnt have this feature, leaving me with drained batteries occasionally.

I personally like the instrument panel exactly like it is. It doesn't need to be lit to be seen, & that's perfect!!! If you can't see your panel, your headlights need to be ON!!!!!!! It's doesn't matter where you are!

If you are entering a tunnel, your headlights should come on. Not being able to see you instrument panel is a perfect reminder to do that!

Likewise, I have forgotten to turn on my headlights in brightly lit parking lots of gas stations & such with other vehicles. For example, my Forester has day running lights & a lighted dash. It's very easy to drive off at a brightly lit parking lot in town & forget to turn on your headlights (day running lights don't include rear lights & you will be stopped).

With my Mirage, my dark dash reminds me my headlights need to be on. I never overlook this. It's the perfect system as far as I am concerned. GM's automatic headlights are good, but I prefer how the Mirage is set up better.

I am speaking partly as a driving instructor here, too! I would teach kids to turn on headlights in tunnels if we had them nearby.

I think having the cluster lit up full time makes stupid people assume their headlights are on. I see retards all the time driving with no head or tail lights at night but their cluster is lit up so they're completely oblivious.

You could probably rig something up to turn on your cluster I guess but if you're driving in a tunnel that is dark and long enough to have the need to see your speedo wouldn't it make sense to just turn on your headlights?

Thanks to people who constantly drive around without head/tail lights in the dark, starting next September all new cars sold in Canada are required to have tail lights turn on along with drl and.....headlights, tail lights and side marker lights must turn on in the dark. Yet tpms sensor are not mandatory here. I do see way more people driving with no lights on than driving with noticeably low tires though.

Edit: I took too long, mark beat me to it.

You need to replace your meter with newer model to do that. Or if the problem only when you go to dark places, you can add automatic headlamp module.
