I already had a very negative opinion of Nissan. This didn't help!

I think that may be a Canadian supply issue. I don't think there's an issue getting a new Leaf battery in the US.

The real problem is that Nissan cheaped-out on the thermal management system of their EV battery. In other words, they use passive air movement to cool the battery (not the most effective way to cool an EV battery).

Tesla, BMW, GM, etc. use active thermal management. These systems circulate coolant through the battery to maintain the battery temperature. It's the better way to go.

Heat will quickly degrade an EV battery over time...as some Leaf owners are finding out. The new Leaf still doesn't use active thermal management...but supposedly they have changed the battery chemistry to handle it.

The moral of the story is have the battery evaluated before you buy a used Leaf (or any used EV) so you can tell if the battery is degraded. You don't want to buy a used EV with no battery warranty if you don't know what you're buying. It sounds like that's what happened to this guy.

Jesus, Nissan was up there with Toyota in reliability for years. We are going forwards in technology but backwards in reliability regarding cars IMO.

Jesus is not the issue. I (& many others) blame Renault!

This is why you can get a 5-year-old Leaf...a car that cost $30,000 new...for about $9,000.

And some people complain about the depreciation on the Mirage!
