1st speeding ticket in a Mirage!

Got my first ticket. 83 in a 65mph highway. I'm like Sammy Haggar, I can't drive sixty fiiiiiiiiiive! This engine was straight purring at 80 mph. I'm telling you, 3A92 is a tough lil *******. The cop couldn't believe my car could even go that fast. I kept it friendly after he cited me and we even talked about how it would be a good car for his teenager. I asked him how often he pulls over Mirages and he said on the freeway, not ever but in the city often, because most Mirage owners are sub prime in Atlanta and will often have expired tags, warrants, etc. Apparently in Atlanta the Mirage is up there with the Chrysler 300, Challenger, any Nissan sedan etc. for being pulled over often. I joked "Oh so I got popped for a DWM (driving while Miraged)." We both had a chuckle at that and I didn't get shot so all in all, a good Halloween night.

That is a good story Dirk. I am not surprised you got a ticket though since you say you drive your Mirage fast on a regular basis. I deserve a speeding ticket, but I have almost 21 years of no tickets at all. Last time I got pulled over was because the cop said my Mirage fit the description of a stolen car. So I just kept it light and calm, not saying much really besides about my Mirage getting great fuel economy, and the cop said he could see it. I hate dealing with authority, so I keep so calm I"m also super good at the border, like the one time I had 5 homeland security cops around my Escort at the US border. I keep cool and never have a problem. No problemo.

This. You have to put on your best performance of "of course you can search my car officer" whilst looking them dead in the eye. If your body language and confidence is good enough, after their initial question, they'll believe you or they won't. You roll the dice here, because our cops here are either "20 year vets who've seen it and will cut you some slack if your respectful" or the 22 year old cowboy looking to impress his desk sarge with meeting ticket quotas.

The worse thing you can do is overreact in a situation like this. Especially if you're overseas, or in the States and being Canadian like myself eh. Then it can be doubly bad situation. I have been to the USA and to Mexico 100% alone but not everyone's cup of tea to be a true tourist getting lost everywhere and can't speak the language.

Lol! No I'm the jovial jolly type usually in colorful scrubs so I'm quite non threatening looking. I de-escalate stress situation for a living on a daily basis. Hey maybe I should give courses to the Atlanta police department? I kid. I see and talk to cops all the time in my facility and 95% of them are professionals. Unfortunately there are a few that are bad apples that somehow got past the psychiatric screening process.

Let me get this straight: you broke the law, accepted personal responsibility for doing so, was respectful to law enforcement (didn't run or try to assault), and the interaction ended peacefully? I'm shocked....

Tongue and cheek humor, and a bad attempt at that. I will say when the blue lights get behind you, everyone stress levels go up, you, the officer, it's an intense situation for both sides really. The cop has no idea who and what your about, you don't know what kind of reception your going to get on his end either. As I said earlier most of the time it's fine but that one time you get the cop that enjoys being intimidating/has personal issues and bringing them to work, can be harrowing. They are out there is my main point is all and that can be said with any profession really but the difference is the level of power police have over you. I'm not anti-police, far from it but it's like dealing with a dentist doing a root canal, some professionals just make one nervous to me. Just my 2 cents.

Thanks for the critique: sorry, we can't all be the master of weed jokes...

I don't wanna sound cheesy, I'm just glad you're alright Dirk. I hate to be realistic, but any encounter with the police could end up a life altering encounter.

I suppose every drive in your car can potentially be your last too. Awful thoughts, but these are facts, not opinions lol.

I don't agree with your statement at all. If the world was a perfect place, we wouldn't need police or the military for that matter. Some of my best friends (people I admire the most) are police officers. My uncle, who served in Vietnam as a point man (life expectancy was 48 hours) & earn 3 purple hearts doing his job, was my idol as a very young boy. He was a black belt, & no one came close to out shooting him with shotgun. I mean that literally. He would blow away Remington & Winchester reps at state trap shoots in the 1970s. Shooting a 100 out of a 100 clay pigeons was common for him. I couldn't get my shotgun to my shoulder before he would have bird already dead. It was scary, but fun to see!

A former state trooper from my church passed away recently. I loved his sense of humor & kindness he showed to others. Most police officers & military are wonderful souls. Don't throw out the baby with the bath water! If I was told to jump by an officer, I would politely ask how high? They deserve our respect!
