I think the struts that help lift the hatch may be nearing the end of it's life; it's starting to make some noises when lifting/closing the hatch.
What are these things officially called? Part numbers? Replacement DIY vids/instructions?

^ thanks for that.
Looks like they're down to 1 part left. I'll see how much the junkyards want for these things.
Just for the info:
The hatch struts are 540mm long expanded, 211mm compressed, force is 230Nm
Supposedly identical to OEM numbers: 5802A361, 5802A362, 5802A363, 5802A364, 5802A473, 5802A474, 5802A583

Looks like those parts come from european sources.
Mitsubishi parts warehouse shows the parts below being $100 a piece...

I finally used up all the Hatch struts/lift supports from all the wrecked Mirages I've parted out over the years. I even stole some from a wrecked car that's waiting to be repaired.
Work could not source new ones for me. They sell them but don't have a listing...So I grabbed a worn out one and spent some time wandering around trying to match it up with one in the warehouse.
I came up with one that's a hair longer(I can't remember exactly-less than an inch?), not enough difference to cause any issues that I can foresee. Collapsed length is the same.
I originally tried a 4B867848 which appears to fit a 1998+ Astro van/safari van (with the dutch doors and hatch window). The length was ok but these were far too strong. It took two hands to close the hatch. So I took one off and it seemed just about perfect. But over time I'm sure it would cause some problems down the road.
So back to the warehouse....I found another one. 4B877865. Rockauto's interchange says it's for a HOOD SUPPORT for a 2011-2021 Durango and Grand Cherokee. They work perfectly. So far. I just checked the specs and compared to the oem specs that foama posted above. I may have to double check the compressed length as it appears slightly longer than I thought..
They are slightly stronger with @245Nm vs 230NM(oem). https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo...t=1404&jsn=663
I'll update if there's any problems with these but so far they seem ideal.

When hatch struts die, I start keeping a small vise grips in the back. If I want the hatch to stay up, I just clamp it in place on one of the struts. It's been some time since I've had to do that on any type of vehicle.
I figured someone already made a video clip of doing this -

Or you can spend $11.74 for new ones from rockauto.com -
https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo...yZyGl5a9bVJJHl
Or pay $17.11 for a fancy with a name I can't pronounce -
https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo...yZyGl5a9bVJJHl
This video is showing how to do it, & it's a Mitsubishi vehicle to boot -

I just typed in 2017 mitsubishi mirage hatch lifts or whatever, and they came up on rockauto.com
Struts are like wipers. I wouldn't buy OEM ones.

This reminds me, the hood shocks in my truck have been screwed since I bought it 5 or so years ago.
