    Can I use an 1157 in place of a P21 2015 Mirage ES ?

    Rear left driver(USA) parking/break light.

Can I use an 1157 in place of a P21/5W 2015 Mirage ES ? (Edited to add /5W)
I can see it lights up for parking and break.
    Will it do any damage?

I had a spare 1157 and plan on getting P21/5W bulb soon. (Edited to add /5W

    Thanks

No, you may not! They are not interchangeable.

I think you may have read my post too fast?
The 1157 I am using has two pins BUT the wattage is a bit higher.
    Thanks for writing back.

no .. not really pal.. as you can see at side view.. the lock pins are different. Also, looking at the bottom.. the contact area for the P21 is at the center while for the 1157 it is off to the side.. you may try though.. good luck!

OH I see I need to change the subject from P21 to P21/5W
    Will try to update

The darker p21/5w bulb has the break light element burned out.
The second one is a 1157

    ..
That's more clear.. haha.. P21 is a single filament bulb.

Technically, both P21/5W & 1157 are the same: P21/5W is a European designation while 1157 is a US designation.

You're good,, I'd use it, Don't worry about a couple watts, It's not going to melt your tail light, MITZ has got it covered
I didn't know what to do, so I didn't do anything

I bought a 1992 Mercury Capri XR2 many years ago that had an odd electrical problem. When I stepped on the brakes the dash lights would come on and so would other random lights. I thought it was wiring that had rubbed through in the harness somewhere.

Turns out somebody had swapped an 1157 for an 1156 in one of the taillights, which meant when the brake pedal was depressed it also energized the tail light light circuit and dash light circuit. The pins on these two bulbs are in different positions to prevent exactly this kind of thing, but in this case the bulb was simply forced in.

Moral of the story? Just because a bulb may fit in the socket doesn't mean it's the right bulb. Using the wrong bulb can cause strange things to happen!

FYI I changed out both sides with new P21/5W since it is best to change them in pairs since one never knows when the other one will go. I kept the working one as a spare.
