I had a 1995 Sportage back in the late 1990s. Man, you wanna talk about 'an early Kia'. That thing didn't even have a Kia engine in it. It had the same 2.0 that Mazda put in the B2000 pickups back in the 1980s. Matter of fact, it didn't even have any airbags.

Reliable rig, but I could never keep a set of auto-locking hubs in it for very long. They would always fail, and I think I went through about three sets.

I forgot about that, kinda like a Chevy Tracker. My old Ford Escort, that my Mirage replaced also had a Mazda engine.

I kinda doubt that your escort had a mazda engine. I thought only the early 90's gt escorts had the 1.8L mazda engine and everything else came with a ford engine.
The tracker wasn't a chevy with a suzuki engine it was a suzuki vehicle with a chevy emblem.

It appears that kia bought engines from mazda and installed them in their little suv. Mazda didn't build suv's that early.

To keep this train off track.....

For some stupid reason I watched over half of a Snotty Kilmer video last night. The title said something like "why mazda is the best mfg" or something like that. Then he went on talking about the entire history of Mazda from the early 1900's to now, I stopped watching around the time he got to the 90's(about 20-25 mins in). It was the longest Mazda commercial I've ever watched!

My 1998 Escort wagon was a good car, I had tapes that I found at the wreckers. Beach boys greatest hits and weezer's blue album.

I like the tech behind old Mazda RX 7's. I saw an RX 8 yesterday at the tire store, and also saw another one of those 5 door Porsches. Actually got talking to the owner for a moment since we all have to wait outside because of covid. Anyway well dressed compared to me but what is the point of a Porsche hatchback sedan in the winter. Looks like old Boxster parts all over the place. Impressive thing still, and the engine sounded good.

Outside of alloy wheels & push button start what other features are missing on a current 2021 ES manual?
    Good point - not much!

But I love my Mirage and am glad for all the features it was built with, especially the Keyless Operating System, automatic climate controls, electric cabin heater, air conditioning, cruise control, all on top of it's outstanding fuel economy. The notion of having stripped-down transportation is okay, but I have that taken care of.

Eggman names 6 great features on his Mirage, and my Mirage has 1 of those 6 features lol. We both have heating in our Mirages.

I think the one feature in my Mirage I love the most is the USB stereo. I have literally thousands of songs and CDs, all at the touch of a button. No need to rewind. The day I picked up my Mirage I also entered the 21st century.

Well Mark was saying between the 15 ES and the 21 ES. But I did forget the chrome front door handles and the chrome vents.
