    No more Enasaves for 2021?

While checking out new Mirages I noticed that 2021's with 14" wheels are now equipped with Falken Sincera tires...not Dunlop Enasaves...

The Dunlop Enasaves & Falken tires are both made by Sumitomo Rubber Industries. I just double checked my Enasaves in the garage, & the fine print says Sumitomo Rubber. There's a connection or past history at least.

"In June 2015, Sumitomo and Goodyear announced that they would dissolve their worldwide partnership. As part of the deal, Sumitomo bought Goodyear Dunlop Tires North America, which included a manufacturing plant in Tonawanda, near Buffalo, New York. The plant, rebranded as Sumitomo Rubber USA, began to produce Falken Tire-branded tires in January 2016."

I was bit concerned about 165/65r14 tire options in 2017. I no longer have that concern at all. Falken, Federal, Nexen, Kumho, Vredestein, Nokian, Bridgestone, & Dunlop are offering decent options to pick from.

Lol, I noticed the same thing a couple days ago when I was perusing the '21s online. I could tell the tread pattern was different...you just beat me to it!

Those damned Enaslaves are no loss, IMHO.

These Falkens should offer a better overall value. One of the best things about them is they appear to be reasonably priced!

These are 80,000 mile tires...and the tread depth is 2/32nds deeper than a new Enasave. So it's probably even more important for any new 2021 owner to get an alignment check and keep the tires rotated regularly if they ever want to see close to 80K miles of life from them.

I don't assume these Falken Sincera SN250A A/S are 80,000 mile warranty tires. I haven't seen anything indicating that for this size at least.

Tire Rack lists the UTQG as pending, but Tires-Easy lists the UTQG for their tires.

Tires-Easy give this tire a UTQG of 320BB, which is not impressive. Even a Dunlop Enasave has a better rating. I also realize companies may not be consistent in their ratings, but the same tire for my Subaru Forester size is rated much higher - see below.

    UTQG ratings (from tires-easy.com) -
    Dunlop Enasave = 340AB
    Federal SS657 = 420AA
    Landsail LS388 = 500AA (50,000 mile warranty)
    Nexen N'Priz AH5 = 460AA (50,000 mile warranty)
    Bridgestone Potenza RE92 = 260AB (40,000 mile warranty)
    Falken Sincera SN250A A/S = 320BB (no warranty listed)

When I look up the same Falken tire for my 2011 Subaru Forester (215/65r16), it has a UTQG of 720AB (80,000 mile warranty). The tire is named Falken Sincere SN250 A/S. The extra A is missing from the name. It does not read SN250A like the smaller 165/65r14 tire. Not sure why or what is different?

I just wouldn't make the assumption these are 80,000 miles tires, until someone shows me a better UTQG rating & stated warranty for this tire size.

That's a good point. I'm going on the assumption that these are 80,000 mile tires because every other 14" Falken Sincera tires on their official website have a UTQG of 720...

...BUT...you almost can't find a 165-65-14 Falken Sincera tire anywhere. This size isn't even listed on Falken's own US website as of today.

So it will be interesting to see if Falken is producing 165-65-14s with a shorter treadlife (less tread depth) to reduce the cost and give them slightly less rolling resistance.

We need someone with a 2021 to go look at the ratings on their tire sidewall. Is the UTQG 720 or 320?

EDIT: Answer in Post #8 below.

Well, they are listed for sale as a Sincera SN250A A/S. That is a slight difference from Sincera SN250 A/S.

I saw these tires appear a month or two ago on tire sites like tirerack.com & tires-easy.com, & I had the same impression as you at first. I thought this would be a great warranty tire, but the UTQG rating I have seen so far don't indicate that. If so, that's a bit disappointing.

Simpletire.com list them with a 320BB rating, too. That's not an impressive rating.

The 165/65r14 Kumho Solus TA31 has a 500AA (60,000 mile warranty), & it is listed cheaper than the Falken. This has been the best 165/65r14 warranty tire I have seen since owning my Mirage.

From the pics, the tread pattern of the Kumho & Falken look very similar.

    You're right...these are definitely not the standard Falken Sincera SN250 A/S 80K mile tires...which is a bummer!

The new Mirage tires say SN250A A/S on the sidewall...

    And the UTQG is 320...

EDIT - Looks like this SN250A model has been around a few years as an OEM tire...

Thanks for confirming that! Steve (& his 300,000+ mile plastic Mirage) was really fond of Falken tires, but he was using the 175/65r14 variety. He was getting high mileage out of them, too!

The Falken Sincera SN250 A/S with the 80,000 mile warranty would have been a great option. Given the poor UTQG rating of the Sincera SN250A A/S, I would rank them below most other 165/65r14 tire options.

If someone doesn't mind a slightly wider/taller tire, the 175/65r14 Falken Sincera SN250 A/S with a 80,000 mile warranty can be had for $67/tire @ Walmart.

If you want to stick with a factory size 165/65r14 tire, the Kumho Solus TA31 with a 60,000 mile warranty may be the best option available. They are currently under $60/tire @ Walmart.
