Question She's tired but still has some fight left! (For sale: 2014 with wonky CVT)

    Located in central Alberta

It's finally time. I'm never going to get around to fixing the transmission in my 2014 CVT ES.

It has two sets of tires on rims, 285,000kms, and a transmission that will get you around town but not go past 80km/h without some serious patience.

I've posted lots on my car and it's inevitable CVT issues, but I had a 200km commute 5-6 days a week for a few years, so it's all highway kilometers. The transmission finally became unreliable, and so I replaced the car and never got around to fixing it.

My wife has been using it in town, and it's great for that, but would need a transmission swap for any serious distance/speed.

It has all the fancy options like heated seats and bluetooth.

The paint (black) is in rough shape, as is the winshield, but the battery is new last year, and the summer tires are in pretty good shape.

Engine is strong, I changed it every 10,000kms with full synthetic, did spark plugs and coolant on time also.

Let me know if anyone is interested- I figured I'd give the folks who know these cars a crack at it before I dump it on Kijiji for pocket change.

    Thanks, Ty

Do you know how much you want for it? Asking for a friend.

I don't suppose Fummins would be looking for a project car?

Regardless, good luck with the sale. What car will replace it?

If it wasn't in Canada I'd want it just for the heated seats and mirrors

I’ve been driving a Kia Niro HEV for the last couple years, but just bought a 2017 Bolt EV for the commute. Take that, fuel bill!

So you got about 175k miles out of it? Not bad, just shy of that magic 200k mile mark. I forgot, we're you religious about changing the CVT fluid? I want to know the secret of that couple in Minnesota who got 400k miles out of their 2014 cvt lol.

I was ok about the CVT fluid, but never did either of the filters. I think it was a combination of luck and exclusively highway miles. From about 30,000kms (18,500mi) it was 100% highway driving. 70mph, cruise control, easy drives.

Driving an EV in Alberta? Don't you get constantly coal-rolled?

    JUST KIDDING.

I've driven a Bolt - pretty peppy. Very practical car. Loads of range. Too bad they don't have the Tesla cachet - GM deserves to sell more of them than they have.

Funny story about a friend who bought a Bolt and drove it to the east coast & back a couple of summers ago:

He screwed up his route planning, pushed it too far, missed an exit, had to backtrack, and ran out of juice WITHIN SIGHT of the next charging station. The car actually stopped and wouldn't drive any further. He's a big guy, so he decided to just put it in N and push it to the charger (basically across a parking lot). But the car wouldn't let him! It automatically shifts into park if you get out of the car when it's in N!

He couldn't figure it out. (And didn't think of trying to climb out the window until much later.)

Ended up calling the GM dealer to ask what to do. They sent someone over... who sat in the driver's seat and steered while he pushed the car over to the charger.
