I'm using the Fumoto F106S (short nipple) on both my Mirage and Outlander Sport. I also use a short 3/8" hose with the Fumoto nipple connector (SH-10). Makes oil changes so easy.

I also have the F106S on my Mirage. If you want to use a hose, you have the option. I used a hose once, and I saw no need for it. It's just one more thing to clean up or store. I would still buy the same valve if I had to replace it, however.

I have a F108 (original style without a nipple) on my 2011 Subaru Forester, & it's great, too.

No tools necessary, less messy, & no replacement drain plug washers are needed. I used two cheap dish wash/kitty litter tubs while changing the oil in my Mirage. While the oil pan is draining, I change out the oil filter (use a 2nd pan under that spot. Once the oil filter is changed, I just slip under the car, close the valve, & pull out the plastic tubs.

I find using a 65mm 14 flute oil socket wrench to be helpful when changing the oil filter from the top. I have a hard time grabbing & torquing on the oil filter with my bare hard from above, but a stubby handled ratchet works perfectly!

I also use the same 65mm 14 oil socket wrench for my 1993 John Deere LX176 (Kawasaki engine) riding lawnmower & 2006 Kawasaki Mule 610 oil filters. I probably wouldn't need a wrench for them, but I have it to use.

I have one of those too. Not the cast looking part but a stamped version. I'll just say, I think my part is rather hitty. Throw an s in front of that and we're in bidness. The cast one pictured looks a lot mo' bettuh than mine.

I use the f106s. I also found that a plastic 3/8 mnpt hose barb fits perfectly on the nipple.

Size: 83.1 KBI don’t like how low this hangs down. And I am not comfortable tightening it more.

Just don’t go off roading or running over parking curbs. The rad support will normally bottom out first. Except for that one guy that hit a paint can or something on the highways. If it makes you feel better the 2012-13 Sonics we have at work have a less clearance and rip all the plastic off under the engine and wear down the flex pipe too. The worst I see on a mirage is usually just the rad support bent back.

My oil filter gets tightened by hand as it says on the carton.
That is just until the rubber gasket touches ever so lightly, and then exactly three quarters of a turn further.

That way it doesn't leak, and can easily be removed by hand without any tools at all.

I do own a simple filter-cap just in case, but for this car I don't need it.

You will have more troubles than the fumoto valve were you to hit it. It isn't the lowest thing on car.
