This doesn't seem too common, at least here on the forum. If I'm reading it right, its only the #3 piston? That should rule out oil viscosity an issue. Unless there was a circulation problem in that cylinder. Or like others have mentioned, the too rich mixture programming hit that port extra hard vs. #1 and 2? Or maybe that piston was installed on a Friday afternoon... if it was a rich mixture washing the walls, Honda should be seeing a lot of this in their 1.5 turbo.

the #3 cylinder was the worst but not by far. All cylinder had the same damage. Today I found a maybe .005-.010 thick white buildup in the water jacket on the cylinder, I don't know if it was build by an overheating event or if it caused overheating... It may even be an anti-leak treatment from mitsubishi like gm few years ago. Name: WP_20210411_12_57_19_Pro.jpg

The buildup is absent in front of the water inlet on the #1 cylinder. As far as I know it may even be normal, I havent done much research on it.

There was some assembly damage on the main bearing but nothing very bad on my opinion.

The head gasket is .3mm compressed, the stock piston is 1.5mm down the hole and the new piston are .7mm out of the hole. New piston from toyota 1.5 1nzfe from the echo/yaris have near 2X more quench area but I need to remove 1.3mm from the crown for it to have a 1mm piston to head clearance. Once it is done I will measure the piston shape cc again but it should finally have a cr of 11:1 instead of 10.5:1.

The cylinder head quench angle and piston quench angle from the toyota and our engine are the same 17 degree.

I stand corrected; it was all 3 cylinders. The substance in the water jacket-I wonder if thats the same others have found that clogged their heater cores? Thanks for sharing all the pics and details..all good info to have.

Doubtful as the goo in the heater core is blue not white.
