"It's like a Swedish K-Mart with meatballs." ---My dad, circa 1994, reporting to me on how his first trip to IKEA was

    He was not impressed.

As someone whose worked in retail in my early 20s I can sympathize with this guy. Some customers are just terrible, most are fine though thank gawd. But yeah, working for $9 an hour and being treated like crap by management and customers will just break your soul down and turn you into a depressed cynic. You get what you pay for and most retailers don't pay $hit, except for Costco. They pay a living wage and hold onto their employees for years. This translates into fantastic customer service IMO. Hell, Chick-Fila employees are excellent because 1. After proving your self and work ethic, they pay non poverty wages 2. They're dead serious about lifting their employees up with management opportunities/raises etc. I know this because one of my closest friends is a assistant manager there.
