Thread: What's the farthest you've gone on a single tank of gas?

  1. #51

    kilotank!

Passed 1000 km on my last fill! (620 mi)

I carried a little jerry can on my last run just in case ... then it turned out I didn't need to. Could have gone almost another 100 km if I'd run it dry.

Then I remembered that 1000 km is amateur hour:

Of all the cars, the Mirage hatchback of George Apacible was the first to conk out (due to its smaller 35L tank) and achieved 1,278.6 km. But the Mirage G4s with their bigger 42L tank managed to drive much much further. Georges Ramirez in the Mirage G4 CVT managed to do 1,517.9 km on a single tank, while his brother Louis went on to 1,647.1 km in the Mirage G4 MT.
Thread: Mirage G4, hatch to challenge fuel economy record. UPDATE: 1,647 km on one tank!

I have never seen or read where the G4 has a larger gas tank than the Mirage. Is that true in some markets?

If I google "Mitsubishi G4 tank size", I get the same 9.2 gallons (approximately 35 liters) as the Mirage.

Lately, I have been driving my G4 a lot for work via 100% hwy and the fuel gauge has gone from full to half that took 221 miles (355 km).

Below is my current progress which is my best personal milestone.

I can’t wait to see the final result of my MPG once refueled.

    fuel gauge "milestones"

Know what's fun: my crapcan 1990 Miata has no OBD-II, so no way to plug in a ScanGauge or the like. I do have a custom built MPGuino that sort of works, but mine is finicky and usually loses the "tank" MPG calculation several times over the course of an actual tank.

So over the years I've actually built up a little cheat sheet of what MPG I can expect to get if I have "X" km on the trip odometer when the fuel gauge needle passes 3/4, 1/2, 1/4 & the "E" mark! It's surprisingly accurate. (Of course it's more and more accurate the closer you get to E).

Here's my 50-55 MPG cheat sheet...

I’ve hit my milestone. I filled up the tank and took 7.898 gallons.

The Trip A MPG nearly got it right, to my surprise as it tends to overestimate and underestimate. My scangauge eco MPG read 52.5 which was off by 2 MPG. Still impressed despite not being able to go 100% hwy on the full tank. My fuel log has been updated.

A long time ago, 2006 Ford advertised going 1000Km on a single tank and it was a Focus or something equally large.

You know where this is headed, it had like an 65l tank so 15km/l or roughly 42mpg hiway. whoopee. good but still likely 35mpg realistically.

Maybe I’ll retake the famous MetroMPG challenge next time…only in bone stock fashion (no added on aero dynamics accessories or things like that lol)

I'm lazier than a dog on a hot day and somewhere is my thread where I got 24-26Km/K or something like 65-68mpg just tooling around my hood during COVID as i was bored. Normal driving, winter tires @51psi and a COOL evening. The energy density of gas goes was up as it cools down.

    here's where I got 72.x MPG Imperial https://mirageforum.com/forum/showth...l-best-tonight
