What's the farthest you've gone on a single tank of gas?

Is there a thread about how far you can go on a tank of fuel? I managed 560km(348 miles) on my last tank. The last bar and entire gauge was flashing. Still showed 60km til empty though.

Not sure what that worked out to for economy because I just topped it off with some fuel I had at home from a quading trip last month. I'll top it off again one day and try to flood that charcoal canister...Then try to go further.

I've never set my trip computer to find out. I fill up about every 10 days or so. On average I drive my car 50 km's a day, 5-6 days a week. That equals around 400 km's to a tank. My dash computer has said I should get up to 640 km's to empty on a full tank of gas, but I think that's reading optimistically.

Mind you too, that I'm only driving at around 85 km's an hour, low or zero traffic. I honestly have saved a lot of money on gas over the years.

My last tank was my farthest in a Mirage: 849 km = 528 miles

The gas gauge bars were all gone, the gauge line was flashing, and the Distance To Empty number had vanished (I think it disappears after 50 km / 30 miles to make you panic.)

My all time best in any car was in a 2000 Honda Insight 5-speed. 40 L tank (10.x gal), 1499 km (931 miles) @ 2.5 L/100 km = 93 MPG US. It regularly got tanks in the 1200-1300 km range.

I forgot all about this thread. That didn't take long.

I got all excited having 288kms on this tank and the dte shows 630km left. Then I saw your post ^ lol
I doubt I'll get over 750km on this tank, it's cooling off here fast. -1c this morning

And I hear gas prices are supposed to be going up 20 cents a liter? Perfect!
Some stations here are up to $1.41/L(according to this that's $4.27/Gallon) already.

Edit: I should have prefaced with I filled my tank right to the top of the filler neck, drove home then topped it off again with a splash from a jerry can too. I'll try to top it off like this again and see what I get for actual economy on this first tank with the "new" engine and transmission.

dspace: most of the time I'm probably driving a bit slower than you do! And don't forget I've done a bunch of MPG mods to the car.

True true. I wonder what max fuel economy I could get if I kept my Mirage at 45 km's an hour all the way to the next town. I also wonder if people would get suspicious.

I may have to put my 4 way flashers on, so people don't suddenly appear from behind, and run me over. I'm usually one of the slower drivers on the road to begin with.

Impressive and interesting MPG numbers, MetroMPG. What speeds are you going to get those? I would say you have to be going very slow and for a long time steadily to get the best mpgs.

PS sorry for the posting hiccup. I'm going through my first bout of shingles at 38 years old, on 11 pills a day right now. Local hospital was so quiet yesterday.

Ha - looks like around 3.0 L/100 km = 80 MPG US. That'd get you over 1000 km / ~600 mi per tank.

Just put one of those slow-moving vehicle triangles on the back. I'm sure you'd be fine. Maybe add a Massey-Ferguson decal too.

Most of my driving is on quiet country roads / scenic routes. 80 km/h max. If nobody's behind me, I might be a couple of kmh below the limit. But I stick to the limit if there's cars behind and no opportunity to pass. Also, the kill switch gets regular use approaching stops & turns - that really brings up the average. Remember: lots of eco-mods on the car.

I'm usually at 80 and 90 km's an hour on similar country roads. Tractor country lol.

Getting like 4.5- 5.0 L/100 km's is an amazing return on my gas money. I can't complain there. My Mirage has gotten me from point A, to point B cheaply for over 7 years

Irritating little things show age on my Mirage now. Interior black plastic is getting faded everywhere. Around the wheel wells, the rubber around there is starting to pop out from where the rivets are. You see this all the time with older cars. But overall, my Mirage drives the same as day 1, shifts the same (super light clutch, stiff into R)

Just got the car, so I'm trying to further the miles little by little. Running out of gas is embarrassing enough. Running out of gas in a Mirage is even worse. My last fill up was 315 miles. I'm not sure if an earlier one was further or not. I've filled up 4 or 5 times I think. I see it blinks at 50 miles left. It's blinked on me for 2 of those fill ups. Last time I filled it up when it said 40 miles left. Yesterday it said 30 miles left.

Another look at refueling: What's the most gas you've ever filled in your Mirage?

You'll learn quick how your fuel gauge works for your style of driving.
