Question Red Plastic Positive Terminal Cover- Do I Need It?

    Hi all,

I promise I will make a garage entry soon as I am a new Mirage owner, but for now I am getting all of my small questions out of the way haha. I bought my 2015 Mirage ES used w/ 25k miles (I'm loving it so far), but noticed that the red plastic cover that goes over the positive battery terminal/electronics next to it is missing. Should I buy a replacement cover for it or is that not necessary? I found some OEM replacement options ($20 new or $5-$10 used) I can put on it so getting the piece is no problem.

No, you don't need it. Your car will work fine without it.

Just don't drop a wrench that contacts your positive and negative battery terminals at the same time.

I have never done that...as far as you know.

Dunno about in the States, but in these parts a missing insulating battery terminal cover will make you fail the regular mandatory safety and emission test. Without a valid test the car is off the road and the owner on foot.

There's strict to make everything safe and then there's ridiculous idiot proofing. You guys sure have some stringent testing over in Germany. I'm sure a fair share of cars over here would fail your tests. We don't test braking force and bias and stuff like that.

Well if your forced on foot at least Germany has a great train system to get around. I wish I could say that about the states, but America is just to damn big.

Isn't Atlanta one of the few American cities with good commuter trains?

You mean Marta? Atlanta public transportation is a joke compared to Berlin, London, NYC. Its like LA, a pure driving town.
