is forward collision mitigation standard on the 2021?

The collision mitigation is a joke. The slightest bit of ice or rain over the sensor can set the alarm off. I even tested it out just swerving to the left before I could hit my wife's parked car. All it did was set the chime off, it didn't apply the brakes at all.

Although i havent read the manual its likely the alarm is not going off because it thinks a collision is imminent but rather because it wants you to acknowledge the sensor is blocked off by disabling the system or turning on your wipers(this is why most cars including mirages now have auto windshield wipers). This is also why most cars with collision avoidance have a large screen in the gauge cluster to show you messages. Also normally collision avoidance will not activate at low speeds as for all the system know you could have been trying to park right next to your wife's car.

What im curious about is where the radar unit is located. on Toyotas its integrated into the logo, on Honda its located below the front license plate, i have no idea where it is located on mirages .

Same here and I even programmed it to only go off at the closes distance.

If you wanted to expirence the emergency braking shouldn't you have set it to the max distance?

what bothers me more about the system is that its low speed only i think it maxes out at 80kmph. Would be nice to at least have some sort of braking at highway speeds to keep you alive so you can buy another mirage.

Also, I dont understand if you have a radar unit and a camera why they couldn't have given us radar cruise control like every other car manufacturer.

It's probably the cheapest option for Mitsubishi, to mount it in an awkward black box instead of integrating the camera into a more fluid design. I'm curious how effective it'll be during a heavy rain.

The camera is always located near the rear view mirror, I was wondering why/how Mitsubishi is the only manufacturer to manage to put the radar unit next to the camera also behind the windshield.

Part of the AcuraWatch Plus or Technology Package, the Forward Collision Warning (FCW) system uses a camera located between the windshield and rearview mirror to alert you when it determines that your MDX may collide with a vehicle detected in front of it.

There may be other sensors on a Mirage? I really don't know, but the camera is quite visible.

When I watched the Hyundai clip, I feel sorry for the future of the human race. Like I am going to spend time programming how close I want car to be to other cars. Are we really that dis-engaged while driving? This stuff really turns my stomach.

Everyone should drive like Dirk feels. None of that crap will work when you need it, because that's how you should feel when YOU drive a car!

Also the idea that you want to program the collision avoidance distance being inconvenient is kinda false. most people only setup things like that once and forget about it.

You are missing my point. These other cars have the same camera on the windshield. You don't even need to play the clip - the pic shows that the signal or whatever is coming from the box behind the windshield on the Hyundai. It may be a camera, sensor, personally I don't care!

My point is other cars have the same thing a Mirage has the windshield.

My not wanting to program to my car even once is not false! I would want that crap removed from my car if possible.

I once had a loaner with lane departure warning. What a joke! That thing was constantly beeping at me. Yet, I am a driver instructor with a very clean driving record. I just find all these features to be extremely silly. If you like them, that's fine. I just don't want to be on the road with anyone who thinks they can rely on them.

Personally, every year the Mirage get more features, I dislike it more! I wish an affordable base model existed. I would not buy the current Mirage at its current price. The car is not worth the price it has become, & this is coming from someone who really likes his Mirage. If a cheaper base model existed, I would feel differently. Economy cars need be affordable, reliable, and economical for me to be interested. I am not saying top trim levels can exist for those who love those features & are willing to pay extra for them.

Since 2017 these have become standard features for all Mirages in the States -

2018 Backup cameras (mandatory) & Bluetooth
2019 Cruise control & 6-way adjustable driver's seat
2020 Automatic climate control
2021 Forward collision mitigation

These changes have impacted the base level the most.

Mine has not one of those features, and I have never missed any.
