Hi, advice on 2014 ES out of state

Hi, I drive 160 miles round trip to work 10 times a month and looking to replace my 86 S10 pick up. I think I've settled on a mirage for mpg and reliability and I just think they're cool. I'm 43 and never bought a car from a dealer. I'm hyper economical with cars. I don't think I've spent the price of a new mirage in total for vehicles my entire life. I set a goal to find a mirage with less than 100k miles with a manual, one owner and less than $5k. I've found a 2014 ES out of state that's $5,500 with 78,000 miles. They say their price is firm. Car comes with a 1,000 miles power train warranty from the used car dealer. Any advice on this model or specifically buying a car out of state that I can't see for myself?
    Thanks!

I have a 2014 Mirage ES myself, for over 7 years now. Has always returned great MPGs. Mine's the 5 speed as well. IMO the hatchback is the way to go for practicality.

For a dealer that's not a completely unreasonable number if the car is super-clean. Unfortunately, used car prices are crazy high right now for all cars...and the Mirage doesn't seem to be an exception based on the pricing at CarMax, Carvana, etc.

Finding a used, clean, 1-owner, well-maintained 5-speed Mirage with no stories isn't impossible but it will take some time. About 80% of Mirages are CVTs.

Tell us where it is and maybe someone on here can check it out. I wouldn't buy any $5500 used car without checking it out in person...especially if it's at a used car dealer.

Have you at least run a Carfax report on this car? There are a lot of salvage title Mirages running around because they can be expensive to repair.

If possible, I'd wait a few more months to see if these prices go down but that might not be an option for you. I can sympathize, it sucks to be in need of a new car right now. There are still some dealerships selling 2020 Mirages for $13k though. I'd put that $5k down and just have a low car note with a brand new Mirage 5speed.

It's in Knoxville, TN and about 400 miles from me. My dad is retired from Delta and can get me a flight up there for $80.

My trucks is at 330,000 miles and though it runs fine it's burning oil on the exhaust from a leaky rear main seal. And I'm just tired of riding to work for 80 miles with the windows down and breathing exhaust and no cruise control. Plus I'd like to save gas money and worried about it going higher.

Hi Casey I was gonna say I would double check that that ES has cruise control. Looks like it does from the website. I know some ES' don't have cruise, my own included. Mine doesn't have buttons on the steering wheel, and this one does I believe. Anyway just I wanted to point that out eh cheers. If you're traveling that far for the car.

2014-15 ES Mirages are not the base models & have cruise. 2017-18 ES & 2014-15 DE don't have cruise unless it's been added afterwards.

Get the VIN and we can look up the Monroney window sticker.

This makes a lot of sense. I don't know your situation, but give Dirks suggestion some thought. Maybe sit with a dealer & find out what the payments will be. They may even give you some for your old S-10 on trade. Doesn't cost anything to ask

I didn't know what to do, so I didn't do anything
