Picking up my $800 Honda Fit 5-speed beater this weekend

Yup to the above.

That said, I bet if the Fit had been available with an efficient 3-banger engine option, a not insignificant number of members here would have one instead of a Mirage, even at higher cost.

I took Mirage #2 on a ~400 km round trip on the weekend (scenic highways, ~62 MPG). It was hands down more comfy than the Fit would have been... but I'm sure glad I didn't have to evade a moose!

One more thing I just remembered: I did something in the Fit during my last drive that I've never done in a Mirage...

I lit up the inside tire accelerating from a stop in an uphill left turn. It was accidental, but I let it spin merrily away to the 1-2 shift just for giggles.
