Yeah they use salt and gravel here. The city used calcium chloride for a while....

The only rust that's gonna start poking through is on the rear 1/4 panels which Metro pointed out the other day in a different post. My own car is probably worse than the work cars. The paint is bubbling and flaking off but just on the left side.
Otherwise, there are just normal surface rust spots above the windshield and the front edge of the hood. Structurally there's nothing close to being worried about. Subframes get packed with ice and gravel but only have superficial rust, no chunks or flakes.

The floors on the work cars are likely gonna rot away. Some cars have a crazy amount of water on the floors come spring. Weathertechs would fix/prevent that but that's not gonna happen.

My weathertechs allow huge amounts of salt water to get under via the holes to anchor them. I clued in spring of 21. I used nothing last year as I didn't drive much, like 1/10 my normal kms. I removed the anchors and used a sealant on the tech holes. Why tech added the holes makes no sense, they self anchor from their shape! next spring I'll use dollar store velcro to hold the summer mats.

My `14 will rust thru the rear quarters if I don't evaporust it. Expensive, but it saved other cars of mine. as for major metal, my TIG will handle it.

(I don't drive a lot. Around 5,000 km / 3k mi a year. Mostly because I work from home, and I usually walk/bike in my small city. Which is one reason my 1998 Firefly/Metro has only 31,000 km (~20k mi.) on it. Also because it sat parked in a garage, unused for 7 years before I bought it! )

    2) 477k km = (296k mi.) on 5-17-2021 Fummins' 2015 Mirage ES, CVT Commercial delivery vehicle, highway CVT at ~300k km / 186k mi. Was in accident in 2021, don't know if it'll be brought back from the dead.
    3) 431k km = (268k mi.) on 1-3-2022 Fummins' 2015 Mirage ES, CVT Commercial delivery vehicle none

    6) 294,000 km (182k miles) on 09-15-2018 Tyrelirwin's 2014 Mirage SE, CVT Freeway commuter CVT at ~281k km / 175k mi.(Edit:engine had rod bearing failure(s) Both engine and cvt were replaced @289k km /179k mi.

I am bound to forget to keep this updated. Reply to this thread and/or PM me if you know of any major updates/additions.

I think the highest mileage in the fleet now is the 2015 Mirage with 523000kms. It's the car in the #2 spot in the chart that had cvt replaced at 224k km.

Next, 2015 Mirage with 517,000km. Cvt replaced at 304k km.

    And then...a 2017 with 507,000km. Original drivetrain.

There a 2015 with 480,000km that's got the original drivetrain too.

I didn't go through the entire fleet but one worth mentioning is a 2015 with 437,000km. The cvt started acting up at around 230k km. Replaced valve body with a used one and it's been good since.
The majority of the Mirages based out of where I am have between 350-440,000kms.
My own car is only at 314,000km and had both engine and trans replaced at around 289k km.

My 2017 ES now has 150,000 miles on it. Last repair was a new clutch.

My 2023 has 16,000 miles on it now. No repairs yet.

I updated parts of the above chart. But now it's not in order....
And... there's a 2017 with approx 520,000km/195,000miles on it with the original drivetrain.

So there's 3 fleet Mirages with over 500k kms on the original engine. 2 2015's and 1 2017.

I wonder if Mitsubishi Motors watches this thread?

Just in case they do -

Please, please, bring back the manual option for the Mirage & offer a base trim level that's more affordable. If you need more guidance - the 2019 Mirage ES manual with A/C, manual climate, & cruise control was just about perfect!

And it had improved suspension and brakes.

I was thinking more along the lines that their choices in layout & design, in drivetrain etc can have longevity when properly taken care of as evidenced here on this forum.

I was just being goofy, but I agree with your other suggestions. Suspension & steering/handling could be improved. I don't feel the 2017+ brakes are that bad. Maybe the larger front rotors were enough to address that issue somewhat?

I really like the 78 hp powertrain, but a taller 5th gear would be nice! I just returned from North Dakota this past Thursday. Anything over 75 mph really hits the economy. I try to stay within 5 mph of the speed limit, and 80 mph between Grand Forks & Fargo is not where the Mirage shines at all. When you get to that point, the "eco" light disappears for good! 75 mph & under the Mirage still does OK in my opinion.

I have been waiting for WEEKS to roll 55555 mi. on my car, and the day I do I didn't realize it until the last second and was on a 4 lane highway doing 65 mph and couldn't catch a photo...
