Looks to be the electrical connector to the wiring harness.

I thought that too but the electrical diagrams only say 2 to 3 wires, I can only see the two yellow and red wires, I don't know what 3R means because, I suspect it might be a splice of the red or yellow. Maybe it's some kind of vent for the motor?

Does anyone off the top of their head know the amperage draw at full speed?

Would it be the resistor / controller for fan speed control??? I know it has to be cooled... Just a guess tho...
I didn't know what to do, so I didn't do anything

Unfortunately not, the resistor is located elsewhere.

I was intending to setup a system where I could run the fan overnight or during a hot day from a auxiliary deep cycle battery charged with a DC to DC but I think the cost of setup is going to be exorbitant.

Well, hang loose. We've had heater core replacements on this forum, so somebody should answer soon that's taken them apart.

Ok, might take longer than I thought.

I reckon it's just a breather for the electric motor.

Motor draws about 3 amps on fan setting 1 and 6 on fan setting 2, I didn't bother seeing what 3 or 4 drew, but it probably goes up linear, maybe.
