My starter seems to be broken and I need help

It didn't. I also switched a couple of relays and that didn't work either. Power was definitely getting to the starter. I guess I lost the starter lottery.

Sounds like you tried everything you could first, and that's great! Pretty much all starters fail eventually. It's not the worst item in the world to replace.

Rockauto.com wants $152.79 for a rebuilt starter. $34 extra if you don't exchange them.

Autozone.com wants $169.99 for a rebuilt starter. $40 extra if you don't exchange them.

Local electric motor guy in my area charged me about $100 to rebuild the starter for my tractor, but that was over 10 years ago. Not sure what it would be today?

If a Mirage is not under warranty, I wonder what a dealer charges?

I read on another thread that a new starter replacement can run $1,100 on the Mirage, which blew my mind. So I looked up the average repair cost with AAA. Yep, they apparently are correct. Yikes.

And anyone willing to pay 1100 to replace a starter either has money to burn or is the type of person who's deathly afraid of used or aftermarket parts.
I'd buy a used one for well under $100 and if I wasn't able to change it myself I'd pay a shop .5-1 hrs labor to change it for me. These are stupidly easy to replace.

I would rather shove a hay fork into my foot than pay $1000 for exchanging a starter! I would have deserved it if I were that stupid!

There are plenty of cheap aftermarket new and rebuilt starters, and its also no big issue to replace them.

OMG I just want to say that I just replaced my 2003 Toyota Camry LE 4 cylinder starter. And it was probably the easiest thing I've done on a car ... EVER! The starter is almost as easy to get to as Mirage spark plugs! One can pop the hood and reach down and put fingers on the starter. It nearly hits you in the teeth once the hood is open! I love that car.

A mechanic with a couple fancy flexible extensions could probably have the starter out in 5 minutes and not remove anything else. But I removed the battery, battery tray (which just sits in there) and an intake tube, and it was wide open. If everyone knew how great these mid-2000 Camrys are, a good shape one like mine would be worth 1 million shekels.
