    Pistons and Rods 3a92 discussion

Does anyone no where to get pistons/rods for the 3a92 without spending a fortune? I’ve heard honda D16 series work as they are same bore/stroke but it seems everything honda “performance” comes with a heavy price tag so I just thought i’d ask for anyone who’s turbo’ed already or thinking of building a turbo 3a92. Mine works great on 7-8psi with stock internals but I don’t want to throw 15+ psi at it until i’m forged or upgraded

Wouldn’t a rod & piston from the 4A92 be the same?

I had the diesel version of the 3a92 in my Smart fortwo, might be worth a look.

As far as I can tell, forged Honda internals are relatively affordable due to their popularity. They'll be much cheaper than a one off set made for the 3a92. The bore and stroke are the same, but I'm interested in rod length, wrist pin height, and bearing diameter. Thats where the issues might lie.

One hope might be the new eclipse cross internals. I don't remember how similar those are to the 3a92

I have spoken to some of the guys in Asia with turbos/chargers and they are using honda D rods and pistons. In fact the vitara pistons on fleabay are cheap as dirt and suppose to handle 25+ psi. They are low compression though, and I don’t want to give up my 10.5:1 ratio since i’m running e85 and never going to go super high boost...

Let’s try this... Does anyone have the specs on OEM pistons and Rods for the 3a92?
I know 75mm pistons and stroke numbers. What i’m asking for are Rod length as well as big and small rod end sizes?

I think your best bet is to buy a scrap engine and take it apart. Unless it's cheaper to just buy a new rod and piston. Not likely that anyone is going to have those numbers... And would you trust them as a basis for ordering expensive parts if they did?
    Simplify and add lightness.

Yes I would trust someone if the info I currently have validates what others are saying. I can’t be the only who been digging deep into the 3a92s.... am I?

I’ve gotta pull my engine to fix my oil return and some other items anyway so I guess I might as well tear it down and get my measurements. Just would be nice to be the guy receiving answers for once rather than pioneering them
