I pulled the core out this way on a Mirage I was scraping. Dash and heater box weren't removed. I've got a bunch of cars I have to bring in and strip out to make room outside. Will give it another go if I have the time.

I have looked under the dash with the cover removed to size this idea up. There are a couple brackets and one small control box that definitely need to be moved out of the way in order to slide the core out of the heater box. The only other things I would be concerned about are the brake pedal and the intermediate steering shaft...depending on just how long the core is.
Of course, if you have to pull the whole dash to get to the core these two things will likely need to be removed anyway...plus a LOT more.

Its more likely done like this to make the box the product ships in substantially smaller. If you look at top fuels photo of the OEM setup that would need a huge box compared to what foma has shared with us where the metal hoses can be laid ontop of the core for shipping in a small flat box.
