Is that carbon buildup from dirty fuel?

I was kinda hoping someone with more engine or e-85 experience would tell me what the heck it is… I mean it’s not like carbon, it’s got a real rusty calcified look and feel to it. Kinda like those hard water stains on shower heads. Bazaar, never happened before on pump gas has so it must be the e-85. Possibly moisture being absorbed through my gas tank seals or somethingOriginally Posted by Eggman
I had my 2.6 head off at 150,000 miles for a seeping head gasket leak and it was not that bad and that was leaded fuel in 1986!

I know right? and I only put this head back together like 4 months ago, it was spotless then… It deff wasn’t a blown head gasket so must have been the e85

E85 is hydroscopic, so it can absorb moisture. Is your E85 pure and from a good source?
It shouldn't cause that on good clean fuel... but I guess it is possible if it had enough moisture content.

It’s pump e-85 from my local gas station. It’s not super high quality, says right on pump between 50-85% content. So depending on time of year I may only have E50 but still the lower content E shouldn’t cause this issue. If anything lower content E would be more resistant to moisture…
My 2017 Mirage owner's manual states up to E10 is OK.
So why are expecting a car that isn't designed for E85 fuel to be ok with it?
I may have missed some earlier discussion or something.
