My 2004 Corolla 5-speed had a bearing failure in it's transmission at maybe around 160k-170k miles. I had the transmission pulled out and bearings replaced. The rest of the 5 speed was good to go because I detected the problem early on. I also had them replace the clutch since it literally only cost me about $200 extra to do it at that time. It never had clutch problems but why not since it was easy to access. The whole job including the clutch cost me about $1,400 to my memory. That car had about 240,000 miles on it when my wife re-styled it.
