My Dunlop Enasaves 7 years later.....

Just wanted to acknowledge my Ensaves as I am about to put them to pasture. date code 4614 (November 15 of 2014) makes them

7 years, 1 month, 21 days of loyal service and retired now at 26,700 miles of reliable service. They still drive well but very visible dry-rot (I will take a picture in the daytime) apparent. (But this car sat on dealers lot for 1 year before I purchased it in March of 2016)

Just wanted to acknowledge these good tires that some people complain about on this forum but in my case they served with honor.

Based on Lincoln's head I think we are just about at 2/32, yes? I think I got my money's worth out of 'em. I dont drive so often and the car sitting stationary developed dry-rott on the tires

On my new set I will mitigate this problem by spraying the sidewalls every 6 months with 303 Marine Sun Protectant

If you feel that good about them, I would buy them again. A set of four are only

    $667.96 - 4 tires @ Walmart
    $56 - mounted/balanced/installed
    $6 - old tires disposal
    $40.15 local sales tax

    = $770.11

I lost a factory Dunlop to a sidewall blow out @ 15,000 miles, but I still used up one pair of them this past summer. I was able to get 35,000+ miles out of the one remaining pair, but I carried a full size spare with me when I had the Dunlop tires on my car. I no longer trusted them.

At a price of $700+ for a set of small tires, you could talk you head off about how good these tires are, & I would just chuckle at you. If you really think they are that great, you should get 2nd set asap.

I understand your point, but the mileage you got out these tires is nothing to write home about. I have Cooper tires going on 9 years old (purchase them in 2013) for my 2011 Forester, & they easily have 60,000+ miles on them (near the wear bar, but not quite there yet). They show no signs of dry rot on them. A set of 4 cost well under half the price of the Dunlop tires above, but that was almost 9 years ago now.

I haven't bought many new tires but I'm happy with my cheap azz winter tires on my car. I bought the second cheapest winter tires I could find on the wifes sorento. They're round, hold air and are better than whatever came on it.
    But...
I bought a set of maxxis trailer tires for my old camper. They lasted a long time. Never leaked. I replaced them after 8-10 years cause they were cracked between the treads and sidewalls. I replaced them with some cheap junk tires and barely got two years out of them before they were almost worn out.
I've got carlisle's on my triple axle toy hauler. I got my first flat trailer tire on our first trip out. Middle axle of course...I'll wait til they're bald before I replace them though. I'm cheap when it comes to tires too, but will probably go with something better on the trailer at least. It's a heavy ******* 14,500lb bumper pull *******.

Actually maybe I should take-back my gratitude for these Ensaves. As you can see with only 26,700 miles they are at 2/32 or less.

And I can assure you that I drive like a Granny. Im a hypermiller and usually go top speed of 70mph. I dont even wind out the engine and I upshift at 3000 rpm. So its not that impressive really

And by the way I "threw caution at the wind" as far as the rear alignment fears and never even had it checked for toe/camber and whatnot. And the warranty is over for me (>5 years owner)

Also I kept then at 40 psi for the life of the car (44 psi is the max rated value for these)

I've been known to be a bit harsh on the Dunlop Enasaves (340AB rating), but that's due to the pricing of them. At $162+/tire, I have much higher expectations.

The current Falken Sincera SN250A A/S (2021+ factory tires) are priced more with reason, but their 320BB UTQG rating is not very impressive. The 175/65r14 Falken SN250 A/S is a much better value.

    Using tires-easy.com prices -

    165/65R14 Falken Sincera SN250A A/S (320BB/no warranty) is $81.59/tire with free shipping.
    vs.
175/65r14 Falken Sincera SN250 A/S (720AB/80,000 mile warranty) is $82/tire with free shipping.

An extra 41 cents is probably going to give you a tire that last twice as long as the other one.

In case no has ever heard me say it before, the Mirage should come with 175/65r14 (23") or 185/55r15 (23") tires as standard equipment in the North America.

You did the right thing. You should be buying the cheapest tires you can get. You're only driving 4,000 miles a year! In that Florida sun, your tires are probably dry-rotted junk after 3-4 years. You would be throwing your money away to buy tires that last 40-60-80,000 miles. Just buy the cheapest things that roll and replace them when they are dry rotted.

303 is a great product. I use it on my tires, black exterior plastic, and even the headlight lenses.

For your situation, I agree with Top Fuel.

By the time you have them mounted/balanced/installed, how much are saving on $200 tires verses the local quote of $240 for everything (+ sales tax)?

I agree. They are good tires. I have owned 8 of them now, 4 new and 4 used. Never failed me, and held the air, and got the MPGs.

I always have felt with endasaves: the more worn out they are, the better the gas mileage. New they lasted me about 2.5 years with around 18,000 km's of driving a year. 45,000 km's total to bald, and no cracks if my arithmetic serves me well.

My used 2016 used endasaves lasted around a year and change. Wore out faster with a different driver me. So I won't buy used again now that I don't have to. Not wearing used shoes either lol.

My point: those 8 tires never failed me. But new or used, wore out fast with regular use, and I am a gentle driver and drive all sorts of heavy equip vehicles besides my Mirage.

So anyway endasaves are expensive for your working man. Especially $166 bucks USD a piece.

In 2021 I bought another 8 new tires for my Mirage. Not endasaves. I have kuhmo winters on my car now, and hankook all seasons for 3 seasons. Canada eh
