So the whole endeavor was to get the heat working. I really think it's the heater core, but after doing some laser heat readings I started thinking stuck open thermostat even though a code wasn't showing. Either way I was like easy enough swap the thermostat, flush the radiator, and then back flush the heater core... and we all know how that went blaaahahaha
At least there's now an easy way to replace the heater core without removing the entire dash and draining the ac.
