I'm also curious to hear the outcome. Any news, VintageBandit?

Hi guys, so it looks like the p̶r̶e̶s̶s̶u̶r̶e̶ ̶p̶l̶a̶t̶e̶ friction disk has a broken spring and housing.

I don't know what caused it, but the Mitsubishi dealer I bought the car from refused to warranty the part because they didn't take the car apart. Seems like a chicken**** thing to do. I ordered a new friction disk and am installing it today. I will update with results. Name: 0228181928a.jpg

Idk if this attachment will work, mobile isn't very good on this forum.

Yup, picture attachment worked just fine.

    That's an odd failure.

Also, sucks that the dealer won't replace it for you.

I am confused. Was it the pressure plate or friction disc that failed? The picture is of the friction disc?

Sorry, it was the friction disk!

Getting the trans lined back up and into the car was pretty tough, so that's all the further I got today. Tomorrow is buttoning it up and seeing what happens. Hopefully the car performs like normal. The replacement friction disk is roughly double the thickness of the original.

As for the dealer not replacing the original, I didn't expect any less. Seems like Mitsu has a reputation for not standing behind their products. I like my Mirage or a lot of reasons, but I may go elsewhere when I replace it this year.

I understand your frustration, but NOBODY is going to warranty a clutch set with 66k on it. Dealership wanted to tear it apart, tell you it was a wear item, then ask for $1000 more to fix it.

Thanks for the update. Here's hoping this fixes things.

VintageBandit: it's a really odd failure. Do you have a theory about what happened to cause that piece to break off?

Is part of the missing metal embedded in the clutch friction material in the photo? (To the left of the missing chunk.)
