Couple noob questions, I searched a bit but couldn't figure it out-

1- What kind of lifters do we currently have? Are they flat tappet? Are they hydraulic, solid or?? Are they self adjusting some what?

2- Why did the press release say ''Roller Type Cam''? Should it not have said Roller Type Lifters?

3- Do any other entry level cars have Roller Lifters? I have never heard of such thing.

Looks like a solid lifter design to me. I haven't heard of them on other entry level cars either...

    That is interesting find, thanks!

We kinda assumed it would be roller lifters. Now is it a direct swap?

The Mirage valve train configuration is ancient technology, at least 100 years old. The roller on the end of the cam lobe is much newer.

Roller in the cam not the lifter? Never seen it or heard of it. Unless this is a long proven design count me out, happy with my traditional cam. Looks like it is also not responsible for the hp gain since all 2017s are improved.

there are a lot more efficiency changes in the engine like the top piston ring is different and coated with something, the timing chain inner link plates are made to "stick out" little bumps to reduce friction rubbing on the guides vs.the 'old' design where the entire edge of the chain assembly is rubbing on the guides...there are a lot more but we were in a hurry when I was shown some information.

Interesting. I wonder how durable that roller cam will be over time. As old mech says, keep it simple / just one more thing to fail.

Well if it fails it will be just like old cam, wouldn't it be?

I read about needle hearing failure on some Z06 engines due to Aluminum shaving from oil filter thread cutting working itself into bearings. Wounded if it could be an issue here as well. Just did a first oil change on my C, after 2 free from dealer, and there were still pieces of metal from manufacturing.

Mirage rollers don't look like have a needle bearings in them.

Thats very interesting, but I can't see that actually being the case. The horsepower numbers for the 5 speed an CVT are the same, and I bet most of that comes from the camshaft change. Still, odd that that is there... Is there anyway for you to verify part numbers?
