    DIY: USB relocation

I hate that the radio's USB port is in the glovebox, so I decided to relocate it to a more convenient location.

I found this setup on eBay, search USB relocation. I decided to mount it where heated seat buttons would normally be. If you pull up on the entire assembly ( fast key slot, cubby, and blank plate) it pops right up. Disconnect the fast key harness and take the whole piece out.

You'll need a hole saw drill out the size of the new USB assembly. Once done, push in the new USB assembly and tighten the nut on back. Run the USB cable up into glovebox zip tie into the back of the dash and put extra cable into hole in center console. Reattach the last key and snap console back into place.

I am going to redo it since the port isn't centered on plate, but I'm happy for now. I also cut the headphone jack cable off since it's not needed. 😉

Very clever idea. I like that it includes a tethered cap that helps keep debris from falling in the sockets.

A quick search of WestMarine.com shows several other similar options:
MARINCO SeaLink Deluxe Dual USB Charger Receptacle 12-24V
WEST MARINE Surface Mount Dual USB Charger Socket
FUSION Panel Mount USB & 3.5mm AUX connector
DUAL USB/3.5mm AUX Remote Extension Cable

Pretty crafty, but I like that the port is in the glovebox, out of sight, and out of the way. I just keep a USB drive with about 900 songs plugged into it anyway.

My Mirage hates my iPod Touch, and I stream music with my phone through Bluetooth.

With Android auto, I hate the phone having to be in there. Otherwise, I wouldn't have an issue 😃

Very cool idea! I didn't know that blank spot was for a heated seat button?!?

They are standard on the '17 US market GT, but '14-'15 top-spec Canadian cars got them as well. They were not an option on the '14-'15 cars here in the States...unfortunately. I would have ordered them.
