Thread: Fancy Metro (Mirage #1) :: 2014 Mitsubishi Mirage SE (Garage entry)

  1. General Information
    Fancy Metro (Mirage #1)
    2014
    Mitsubishi
    Mirage SE
    silver
    manual

"AS-IS special" I got at a North Toronto Toyota dealer with 145,000 km on the clock (90k miles).

Came with a clean Carproof report, service history from the Mitsu dealer next door (one owner, relatively well maintained).

It's so much nicer to drive than the 2000 Metro winter beater it replaces!

Other nicknames considered: Lifestyle Inflation, Metro DeVille, Silver Poupon, Mirage #1 of N

New, this car cost $15,898 + $1450 mandatory freight charge = $17,348. With taxes: $19,603. Doesn't include unknown dealer charges. Basically, $20k out the door.

    Details

Whoopsie-daisy on the front left corner contributed to its low, low price. Several other misc scuffs & chips in the paint around the car.

So, so dirty. The Toyota dealer didn't even bother vacuuming it.

    •

Busted antenna, so the radio reception isn't very good right now.

    •

Looks like it still has the original battery.

    •

    Cadillac soft! So soft.

    •

Came with Dunlop WinterMaxx snow tires 165/65r14 size and lots of tread. Looks like the wheels have never been cleaned - the finish is stained from all the brake dust!

    Congrats on passing!

I've used qbond to glue mount tabs back on a lot of headlights! Works great, dries almost instantly. Drop a little powder around the break then a few drops of the magic clear glue and it bonds plastic right now. https://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/q...-0388084p.html This isn't a paid endorsementAttachment 16058.

Ooo! Thanks. I usually mix up epoxy for stuff like this.

Does the unused clear glue eventually dry/harden up after you open the bottle? Or is it like the epoxy - stays good until you mix the two parts?

I didn't seal the glue very well after using so I only got a few uses out of each bottle. But it should stay good for some time after opening if sealed. The pack I had came with 4 bottles of glue and 4 powder I believe. It is weird stuff, like the reaction between the liquid and powder caused the 2 to be melted into the plastic. It can't be used like glue to join 2 halfs, instead you gotta hold the two pieces together, pour powder across both sides of the break the drip the glue on. As soon as the glue touches the powder it bonds and hardens almost instantly.

They used it at the junkyard all the time to fix broken headlight tabs.

It might be just the picture but it kinda looks like the fender mount bracket could? be bent in a little? The rebuilder were fixing was hit way harder in the drivers side and bent the same bracket. Nice thing about these is most parts can be bent back into shape by hand

Those rear drums could of hit 100k miles no problem. I had a well respected brake specialist tell me that after he put new on my hatch and found out how light the car was. After getting a complete brake job at 50k miles Im no longer concerned with the drums, they'll never be replaced again. Not when Im replacing the front pads every 30k miles. They do what? 80% of the braking on our cars? Im not E-brake happy, so the drums stay with the car till it dies.

That's good news that you're ready to roll.

I'll bet that loose headlight makes it look like one of those crazy goofball cars with lights pointing in different directions lol.

Yeah, that light was definitely pointed too low. Better than too high, though.

    But not for long...

I wonder what the insurance quote would have been for the little love tap that did this damage...

    - headlight assembly
    - bumper cover
    - quarter panel
    - paint/supplies
    - labour

    Totalled?

Oh, and I already broke my first bolt - the one for the snapped-off headlight mounting tab that I'm holding in the above pic. Rusted into the bracket... snap!

    I want my money back.

I can tell you the headlight pod, without bulbs, is $500. The fender, unpainted is $400. So I'd guess the repair bill would be at least $2,000 if insurance was involved and they used the existing bumper cover. If they had to go with a new bumper cover, $1400, unpainted, so now the repair is into the ~$35-4000 range.

They would write the car off, I'm sure, if the accident was done with high mileage on the car. I know my parts prices are close from the total loss sheet for my 2014.

Thanks for mentioning this stuff. There's too many da*m glues in CTC to choose from. I hate making $20 mistakes.

Epoxy? Me too, nothing beats it for strength, durability and making a swear worthy mess. Q-bond is cyo based so air will dry it out.

More good advice on how to use this stuff. I needed it two weeks ago because 3 of my Mirage are now busted at the top where they would go onto a keychain. I have the broken plastic bits and tried a couple of other glues with no joy so I already ordered new housings with blank keys attached. I would have rather repaired the old ones.

Me too, every time I find a beer I haven't tried yet that's on sale. It all tastes the same after a couple though.
